Last January I chose Verizon Fios for an internet provider after buying a home. At the time they offered a $50 Amazon gift card for doing so which sweetened the offer nicely for me. Unfortunately that offer was a a plain lie. Even calling it a bait and switch is being generous honestly... they switched it to receiving nothing.
It was made clear I had to register for the card so after installation, I check my account to register. It said I had to wait (I think it was a month or 2) before i could register. That makes sense to me to prevent people from getting the service and ditching it immediately, so i waited and registered when the time came. It said my card "was on it's way" (oh boy!) I waited a month.....nothing. I checked the status online and it said i just need to register...agian. Why? I have no idea, It was like having corporate run-around deja vu. But whatever I registered again and again the card was "on it's way" (This time will surely be different!) Well it wasn't. It's May at this point and no card.
Now I'm sure most of you have lives and things to do, so wrestling with a IP over $50 is not top priority and after reading nightmare stories online I decided that fighting for it was futile. But now every time I see a Verizon advertisment and every time my bill comes in I am reminded how the company brazenly lied and gave customers the run-around knowing full well that a good portion (including me) will eventually give up.
I do not expect Verizon to do the right thing and send me the $50 gift card but I will share my experience with others in hopes that others will not make the mistake I did. I will be canceling Fios after my full promotional period is over and switching to the competition, the vampires they are, because I am just not happy with what Verizon is offering.
