Why is Verizon sponsoring ABC's awful show GCB?

I am unhappy that Verizon is a sponsor of the ABC television program GCB because of the show's intolerance toward Christians and Christianity. I would find it hard to imagine you sponsoring programming that would so directly insult members of any other religious group. I urge you to express your *tolerance* of Christianity by cancelling your sponsorship of this show.

Verizon's sponsoring of ABC's "GCB" is a direct offense to my faith and opens networks and sponsors-such as Verizon- to attack (or fund the attack of) any faith they choose.  Stop this as soon as possible!

I agree!  Maybe if more people complained about this show, it would be pulled from the line-up.  Interestingly, I can't give the original comment kudos.  It seems to be blocked.

You can't immediately give kudos on sign up, you have to reach "contributor" status first. (This is, I assume, to keep people from creating multiple new accounts solely to give themselves kudos.)

It looks like you have the required status now, so maybe you should try again.

Oh brother, then don't watch. The bad show is going to have a very short shelf life anyway.

I don't know who you are posting to about "supporting the show GCB".  If you read the top of this forum it says PEER-TO-PEER (in case that means nothing to you your peer is another user).  Not passing judgement on you or the show one way or the other.

If you want to express your issue to Verizon try the Idea Exchange - BUT also keep in mind that the promoter of the show is ABC and its sponsors, not Verizon who only carries the network as required by the FCC.

Which is it, are they SPONSORING as an advertiser or simply carrying it! It most certainly makes a difference!

The premise of this show is completely offensive to all Christians!  Would you even begin to support the same type of program about Islam?  I think not because you know the violent backlash you would get because of it.  Christians are not violent so you don't have to worry about that BUT we do have buying power.  Expect to be boycotted until you dumpyour support this show!!!

I agree with you!  Perhaps this sort of complaint should get sent to ABC.  What does Verizon have to do with this?

If there is ever a show that bothers me that much, I don't watch it.  Simple.

Verizon is not going to censor the content of a network. you have a problem go complain to ABC. It just kills me that people like this scream and yell, well you know what don't watch the show and it will get canceled before you know it. The more noise you make the more people will tune in to see what the all yelling is all about.

Sorry I am a Christian as well and I find CENSORSHIP more offensive then a bad television show.

I am horribly offended at the desecration and mockery this show makes of my Christian faith.  I am boycotting the use of Verizon as long as this show continues to air, unless you stop with your sponsorship!

I AGREE! "GCB" is a wretchedly-inappropriate program that makes a mockery of my faith (and makes women and Texans look stupid, as well.) Just not watching the show isn't going to undo the damage that Verizon is doing by corporate sponsorship of this trainwreck of a show. We ALL know that Verizon wouldn't have EVER considered financially supporting the program if it had been called "Good Muslim Bitches" or "Good Jewish Bitches" so why on earth would they not be equally discerning about backing a program that is so obviously anti-Christian? I am appalled at Verizon's lack of corporate judgement.

I have three phone lines on my Verizon account. I will neither tolerate nor abet such a blatant attack on my Christians values as Verizon is perpetrating through their sponsorship of ABC's GCB trash.

If Verizon does not drop their sponsorship of such an offensive TV program as ABC's GCB. I will take my business elsewhere.

I swear it!

I find the show to be very offensive in the manner it portrays the faith in a disparaging light. I would, if it was known that Verizon willfully carried this show, consider finding alternatives to my Verizon services.

Just wanted to commend you on standing up for what you believe! Good for you! This show clearly targets people of faith and in this country, in this economy, it seems evident that faith is definitely needed more than ever.

Again, what does Verizon have to do with this?  In this entire thread, nobody has answered this question to explain why Verizon is at fault.  Think about it logically.  It's the ABC station and if you were to switch to another provider like Comcast, you would get ABC and all the shows that ABC is broadcasting, which would include that same TV show that you find offensive.  The only job of any carrier whether it's Verizon or Comcast is to make sure that you get all of the stations in the channel lineup.

To me, blaming Verizon for that particular TV show is just as invalid as claiming that Verizon is at fault because TV Land is playing all the reruns of Married With Children, a show that I have always found offensive and disgusting since I was very young.

And correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the only station that belongs to Verizon is Verizon Fios one for local news, weather, and traffic conditions.

I agree with the last poster ...

Are the people here complaining because Verizon FiOS is carrying the ABC network which has this show on it?  Or has Verizon placed ad's during the commercial timeslots promoting their services (and thus, in part, contributing advertising dollars to the network indirectly supporting the airing of this show)?

There's a HUGE difference depending on the answer.

In the former, Verizon (and Comcast, and any other service provider for that matter) are simply carrying the channels which their customers want.  Many customers I'm sure don't care for the show, but they certainly watch a variety of other ABC content.   Verizon does not and should not (and in many case legally can not) selectively choose which shows to air.  They either accept the channel as provided by the network and air it unaltered or they drop it altogether (which means all shows on that network are not available, period).

In the latter, where you see a commercial during the airing of the show, that's different.  Here you have every right to petition Verizon to stop spending their advertising dollers to run commercials during this show.  That is an appropriate expression of your opinion and taking your business to another carrier who doesn't run commercials during that timeslot would be an appropriate reaction.

I really wish that someone would answer the question which has been raised.  Which is it?

I don't watch the show, nor do I plan to in order to see if Verizon is running commercials during it (and I suspect many posters here likely haven't either if they're so offended by it -- perhaps they are participating in a campaign organized by another party asking people to complain without actually doing the research themselves).

And of course, at the end of the day, the most effective method is to simply not watch the show in the first place.  If no one watches, then it will certainly die a quick death and soon be a forgotten memory.  Without viewership, shows don't last very long.

As for the content itself, Matthew 5:39.

I just thought of another show that I can never stand to watch even for 5 minutes because I think it's offensive as well:  South Park.  I can never see the humor in that and very often, what's meant as humorous can be interpreted in many different ways and can be a matter of opinion, not to dismiss someone's objection to the content.

Personally, I think censorship in the context of TV shows is a lot worse than broadcasting all of the stations and allowing us customers to pick and choose what we want to watch.

if you don't like the show change the channel no one is forcing you to watch it.  if you want to complain contact ABC not verizon- just saying
