How can I access my verizon mail on the road? I find no app for this. Any advice (or instructions) for using Apple's phone app to access verizon.net mail?

you can always go to http://m.verizon.com and use their web based email, or you can use the internal mail app of the iphone, follow these instructions @ www.verizon.com/repair -

I'm telling you, I've followed these directions multiple times.
1. Select the Mail, Contacts, Calendars tab
2. Tap on the Add Account... tab
3. Tap on the Other tab
4. Tap on the Add Mail Account tab
5. Enter name, address, password, click Next
6. This is the step where the instructions don't match my phone. As soon as I click Next on step 5 I get an alert saying that it cannot connect using SSL. I can choose yes or no, but it doesn't really matter. The next screen in the instructions says that I should fill out the Incoming and Outgoing mail server fields, and then click the Advanced tab. My screen doesn't show an Advanced tab! It shows an option for IMAP or POP along with the server information. I've tried IMAP, I've tried POP, but neither works. I get the same alert saying "Cannot connect using SSL".

Thanks for solving this problem!
I was so confused. I'm surprised that Verizon has not updated its instructions for iOS6 yet.

Perhaps you already have figured this out but I'll respond anyway. I'm amazed no Verizon person has responded. Do they even respond here? Both Comcast and AT&T Uverse responded on their forums.
1. Go To Settings on iPhone
2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3. Select. Add Account
4. Select Other
5. Select Add Mail Account
6. Give the Mail Account a name
7. Put in your Verizon.net email address
8. Add your Verizon.net email password
9. Provide a description if you like
You're Done! Now youvan receive your email on your phone. Similar steps can be used for any other email accounts you have.

I don't get this. I followed all of these steps, but when I click the Next button I get an alert telling me "Cannot Connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?" If I answer "No" then I come to the screen with the option to use IMAP or POP. Both of them have the same result. If I click "Yes" to setup without SSL I get another alert telling me that "incoming.verizon.net" is not responding, and asks me to check the information I've entered. This happens repeatedly. Any clue why I can't get this set up? FYI I have a new iPhone 5 purchased through Verizon.

What ports is it setting up to use?

How can I tell? As I mentioned, there is no Advanced tab where that information would be displayed.

Sorry, I thought I had mentioned that there was no Advanced tab...that must've been in a different thread. Anyway, there is no Advanced tab. There are just 3 sections - the top part with name and email address, then the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server sections, which each just have Host Name, User Name, and Password fields.

Bought a new iPhone 5, trying to set up a verizon.net email account on the phone. Continue to get "cannot get mail, password for "verizon" is incorrect". It is correct password however, as my wife's verizon.net email works fine on her iPhone 5. I am able to login on verizon.com, so password has to be correct. Any ideas please?

well those screens match my wife's phone, so maybe if you have a friend that has an iphone, you can compare them side by side, and see if you are really missing those screens compared to your friends. if you are then you know it's something up with your phone and you can take it to the apple store.

Just to confirm, your wife has an iPhone 5 with iOS 6? I'm wondering if something changed in iOS 6. I will try this with my friend's phone, but she has the same phone/OS as me.

To follow up, I tried the process of adding a new mail account on my friend's phone and it was exactly the same as I described. My guess is that the OS changed in version 6, but I'd need more information from other people's recent experiences.

I find it interesting that no where is there an answer for this. I checked the Apple site also and nothing. In IOS 6, they changed the way mail is and took away the advanced tab. I guess phones Verizon sells cant show Verizon email. Something like this should be brought up in the sales pitch I think.

I found a set of instructions through the Apple Support Community forum that work: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/syncing-verizon-email-ipad-32074.html
I'm surprised other new iphone users with iOS 6 haven't had this issue, but maybe nobody uses Verizon email.

It worked for me, too. I am also a new iPhone user with iOS6 who uses Verizon email. We're out there!
Thank you for posting it. I was going in circles until I tried that link.

Hi can someone help me access my verizon.net on my iphone email app, I've been trying for a week.. I have changed my incoming settings to incoming.yahoo.verizon and changed outgoing settings as well. Techs at the Verizon store are no help either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have same problem on IPAD also. Thx

One problem is that Verizon doesn't support IMAP. This means that I have to POP my home Verizon email to my laptop unless I want to use Verizon's clunky webmail interface. I don't want to also POP mail to my Samsung Note cell phone, as I would then have email in both places that isn't replicated. , What's a person to do???
