Canceling Verizon internet and retaining Verizon email addresses

Hi, newbie here, and not very technical.

Can anyone help?

We currently have Verizon internet and email address but comcast have a faster internet service that we are switching to, and will cancel Verizon internet service.

Does anyone know if we can keep our verizon.net email address even if we do not have a Verizon internet or TV account?

Any help greatly appreciated, also if we can not keep the Verizon email address is there an easy way to move all emails including stored emails to a new provider (probably live.com)

Thanks again

I believe a better option would be to switch to a non ISP email service.  Then you will have the same email address regardless of who your internet provider is.  Outlook and Gmail both offer free email service and they are as good as any ISP email I've seen.  There are others besides those two, but they are the one's I have experience with and would recommend.

Edit to answer your question.

I highly doubt that you will be able to keep your Verizon email address.  You may be able to access it, but if you want a fully functioning email service with an ISP, you will need internet service with them.

I would second Walt's recommendation, but I use the free version of zoho mail. I know it is a hassle changing your primary email address.. http://email.about.com/od/Zoho-Mail/fr/Zoho-Mail-Review-Free-Email-Service.htm

IF you want to keep it  you have to pay http://forums.verizon.com/t5/High-Speed-Internet-DSL-and-Dial/How-do-I-keep-my-verizon-email-address...

Many thanks for the responses - I guess we need to bite the bullet and change - its a pity there is no way to transfer saved emails on bloc rather than transferring each one individually.

Or is there?

If you use an email client like Outlook, it will download all messages in the mailbox.  You can then move them to another folder and they will be retained locally.

If you have created folders here: https://mail.verizon.com/webmail/driver?nimlet=showmessages&view=emails there is no easy way to move them that I am aware of. One person went through each folder, moved the saved messages to the inbox then sent them to the new account. Just another reason to get a good paid (outlook 07 or above) or free solution such as zohomail for your primary email. Best of Luck

You can keep your verizon email address (or so they say), but paying a $19.95 annual fee and registering to keep you your email BEFORE you terminate services wtih Verizon.  www.keepmyemail.com   I just did this at the end of August. I thought it would be a great solution; however, I have been experiencing lots of problems with my email and no one seems to be able to figure out why.  I WISH that I had switched everything over to gmail or something similar instead.

After a few months of trying, I was able to retain my verizon.net email address.  It requires you to order a domain through Verizon at order.domains.verizon.net.  You may get an Error Occurred while Submitting Order.  This error message may be due to this feature being disabled on your account.  You would have to call Verizon (800-verizon) to have this feature activated.  It will take 24 hours for the feature to be activated.

Hope this helps.
