Received the email indicating to change the server in and out setting and to verify that this is a valid change to check my verizon ---If you want to verify the validity of this notification and the instructions contained herein,  please sign into your MyVerizon.com account and click on “Check Verizon Announcements” under the “I Want to…” menu bar.

There is no verizon notice posted.  Is this change request valid?

It is more than likely valid...here is the link to the specific Verizon Announcement--url might wrap:

https://my.verizon.com/central/vzc.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=vzc_help_announcement&id=email_13_01...

Here is the link to the master Verizon Annoucements page--look for the annoucement on 1/29/13:

http://my.verizon.com/central/vzc.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=vzc_help_announcement

Not sure which email software you might be using but if it's Eudora, see the following link--note there is a typo in the first post ("smpt" should be "smtp") so also take a look at all the posts in the thread:

http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-net-Email/Eudora-amp-server-changes/td-p/551673

Hope that helps...

So, if I use Thunderbird, does this apply?

Answered your question on page 2 of the "Eudora & server changes" thread so if you check here first, click on the link to take you to the detailed info in that thread--the link should take you to page 2 of the thread...

You could wait to make the changes until you can't receive/sent mail.

I have received no notice from Verizon about the email server changes and a week and a half ago, I suddenly could not send mail out using Eudora although I could send mail successfully using Thunderbird--I have not had a problem receiving mail via any of my non-verizon email accounts (I don't use my verizon email account at all).

After many hours of research I stumbled across info on the changes to the email servers, changed my Eudora settings and was able to successfully send mail out using Eudora. The day after the problem with Eudora, I could not send mail out using Thunderbird so I made the changes to my Thunderbird settings and then could successfully send mail from Thunderbird.

My sister who lives next door to me who also has FiOS broadband, has continued to be able to receive/send mail using the "old" email server settings.

It's valid ...but the settings they specified don't work for all email programs, such as Apple's Mail on the iphone
or iPad ....I tried it and got "unable to contact server" type messages

I changed the settings for the verizon "Important Changes to your Verizon Email Accoun" email dated March 14, 2013 as instructed.  My  email with Microsoft Outlook Express would not work after adding the new settings.    I then spent about 2 hrs on the phone with Verizon Tech who finally told me to delete the new info that I put in and use my old settings.   This is the second attempt for this action.  Tried it on March 18, 2013.  Both times Verizon asked me to delete the info and use the OLD SETTINGS.   I have Windows XP - what will happen Sep 13 with my Outlook Express?

It will eventually stop working.  Lots of people with Outlook Express on XP have it working. THE TECHS SHOULD BE TOLD NOT TO GIVE OUT THIS KIND OF ADVICE, especially for common configurations such as yours.

Assuming you can do with out email for a little bit (you can temporaily use webmail), carefully make the changes and review some of the peer response on this forum.  You should be able to use either the automatic or manual setup from Verizon's site

If it doesn't work try posting error message and pictures of settings (obscuring personal info) on this thread.  One of us peers will try to spot the problem for you

PS:  just tried lauching XP (virtual) and outlook Express.  I had no trouble making it work.  Most of the changes are off the outlook express account settings. Server and advanced tab.  On the advanced tab select the two ssl  buttons, change the ports.

Double check the settings on the servers page making sure server names are right and that you have NOT checked use Secure Password Authentication

I changed my email settings for the second time, the first itme in March, then I went back to the old settings. Again I cannot access verizon.net except through the web. I am using Mac mail. What now?

I've got Apple products (Macbook Pro, Ipad, Iphone). Today I got the settings changed and working by using this step-by-step guidance from Verizon:

https://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome/VZRepair/vziha/Service.aspx?ihaweb=EmailSetup

There were a few glitches, but I eventually worked it out. Good luck.
