Email to Verizon.net customers delayed

We own a mail service for several hundred clients and for the past 2 weeks have seen emails to verizon.net customers sporadically fail with the following message: 601 Attempted to send the message to the following ip's: 206.46.232.11
Our mail server attempts to send at regular intervals for up to 24 hours and eventually it will go, but I can see many verizon.net intended emails pile up in our queue for a time, and then it will be fine again for a few hours.
Has there been a recent issue with the verizon.net server? It is causing delays to verizon.net email customers.
It has only just started occurring over the past 2 weeks. Our server has proper RDNS and DNS records and is not blacklisted.
Any insight would be appreciated so we can convey to our clients as well as Verizon customers as to what is causing this delay.
Thanks

I am a Verizon customer who has been complaining about this for almost 2 weeks! Verizon denies there is any problem and tells me there server is fine and everyone else's servers are delaying things! I get emails anywhere from a few minutes to a few days after they are sent. Can't say that there aren't some that I haven't received because, well, don't know. I even received a Verizon corporate e-mail that took 9 minutes. Verizon's rep said that doesn't prove anything because e-mails from other senders are also delayed. I didn't even know how to respond to that. Wish I had more information but I am glad someone else is noticing the problem now.

Yes. I can see email from outside is getting delayed for hours sometimes, and I don't know how much is getting lost or returned. Today is the first day I noticed this, though I could go back and check raw source to estimate actual delays.
Trying email from MIT and from Outlook directly to verizon.net accounts and they are not getting received by the Verizon customers (verizon.net).

I also have experienced delays for the past couple of weeks. Some emails come in timely but the problem appears to have gotten worse. Can be anywhere from 1 hour delay to 12 hour delay. Involves many different senders. Should be a way to review the email path to see where the hold up is.

I guess if nothing else, the fact that other people are claiming to have the same problem might get Verizon's attention to acknowledge this. Even emails that are coming from Verizon corporate (e.g. ads) are being delayed!

Having very similar problems for at least last 2 months, and wish that Verizon would step up and (1) acknowledge it and (2) work to troubleshoot & fix.
For a while we thought it was just one sender, but not so. Using Thunderbird as client. Most recent download of messages about 0900 EST today 2Dec14. Previous download around 1630 1Dec14. Sigh, Verizon's website deleted most of my post. Screenshot of Thunderbird inbox, gold starred messages are New. Multiple delayed messages, pointing finger at Verizon rather than any one server.

On the phone with Verizon right now. They insist it is not there problem. They claim "email is not instant". Not sure where to go with this now.

There is definitely an issue on Verizon's end. I am the CEO of a high-traffic website that sends around 10 million transactional emails a month. The last two days, particularly around mid-day, our mail server queue fills up with Verizon emails, which will not deliver until the mail server attempts multiple times. We are not seeing it with other email providers.
We also send some of our emails using SendGrid, one of the largest email service providers. Our support representative at SendGrid also confirmed that they were seeing delays in Verizon email delivery.
Yesterday, the problem eased up by early afternoon, thankfully. It has started again this morning and we're hoping it is also temporary. Perhaps there is an overload of holiday email. We appreciate verizon customers that contact the company on this issue, so that they are hearing from multiple users about the problem.

Same here DRutledge! Thanks for contributing to the post. Hoping some insight can be gained into what the issue might be as I am tired of seeing my mail queue so clogged. I understand when Verizon says that email is not "instant" and we all understand this because of greylisting... but over an hour for an email message is not normal. Especially for hundreds of emails in my queue trying to reach different verizon customers.

I will be calling them up as well, I noticed that they started having more issues after adding some new spam filtering. Like you here on the thread, I have experienced slow email, returns when I send from work email to my verizon account, and sometimes I cannot login to the site to retrieve my email.
This has been going on for the past 3 weeks for me, And today it has been particulary slow with more returns from work email that I have sent to myself.
Yes, I know email is not instant, however when I can send email to my gmail accont and see it in a few moments, but have to wait sometimes hours for my verizon account (if it is not bouned) then there is something wrong on verizons side.

Let me add my voice to the group.
I have been seeing these delays for the past few weeks. I have a domain with email and I have it set to auto-forward to my vz account. The domain email arrives when it should. The auto-forwarded message to vz takes a few minutes to hours to arrive. Even messages that are just sent to vz can take hours.
Extremely annoying to say the least.

Yesterday just sent an email from my work to my Verizon account and it was delayed by 1 hour. The next message I sent I actually got an NDR saying the account was temporarily disabled - YET - I was logged into the webmail and sent an email out!
Later in the night I was unable to log into my webmail on Verizon as it told me my username did not exist. Went through the whole recovery for UserID and it told me exactly what my UserID was that says does not exist. An hour later I was able to log in again.
CRAZY stuff here!
As we speak, I just sent another email from my work to my personal and going on 15 mins and I have not received it in my Verizon box.
Mail server queue reports this:
601 Attempted to send the message to the following ip's: 206.46.232.11
What is going on!!

Maybe this will help - got a new message as my email sits in queue trying to send to my Verizon.net account:
450 4.3.0 Spam filter message initialization failure [slot 1 name 1]
I have not seen that one before!

We've been having this issues since September!!! Some e-mails delayed up to 2 days. Talked with support today and "she" admitted they new about the problem since last week. The Techs are working on it, but no time frame as to when there would be a fix? really, transfered me to billing and gave me a "one time only" $5 credit on my bill. Guess I'll call every day just to ask if theres a fix yet. If everyone did this they would fix it.

Just received an email from a hotmail account 13 hours after it was sent which seems to verify a prior post regarding problems with hotmail. I also learned from a IT person I use that there are email problems with other ISP's other than VZ since many of his clients do not use VZ as there ISP

Add me to the people who are experiencing delays of up to 22 hours to receive sent mail. I've got headers that show that Verizon accepted the mail when it was sent, but it was not passed on to me until long afterward. Those Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials aren't much use two days later.

I have been having the same problem for a couple of weeks, but it's very specific for hotmail to my Verizon email. I exchange frequent e-mails within a small group. One sender is on hotmail and I am the only one on Verizon. Most of the rest of the group are on gmail accounts. Over the past couple of weeks, when the hotmail user orignates an e-mail, I see replies from others in the group almost instantly, and then the hotmail arrives 2-8 hours later. So my conclusion is that it's specific for messages from hotmail to Verizon for me. It's happened with one other hotmail sent to me in the past week as well. I get all gmail and other server messages just fine, including ones I send from my work e-mail to my Verizon address.
