New email is being marked as "Read"

All of my new email is being marked as "Read"
It does not have the purple indicator that represents the mail as "Unread"
Without seeing the indicator, I do not know which is "New Mail"
I have contacted Verizon and was refered to call tech support.
I will do that after i post this on the board to see if anyone has any answers.
