POP3 with gmail and outlook.com not working

I'm currently unable to set up POP3 on Outlook.com or gmail for my verizon account. I've confirmed my user id and password are correct and am using incoming.verizon.net as the POP3 server, port 110. The error message for both Outlook.com and gmail state that they "couldn't log in to your POP3 server". This was working late on 10/15/12 and is not working now. No configuration changes have been made on my side. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

what I am hearing is that he is not using vz.net email addresses
instead using gmail.com and outlook.com
You would use their incoming server info, and you would only use the outgoing verizon server info.
So pretend settings
pop.gmail.com user pass |
Verizon Settings
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP😞 outgoing.verizon.net
- Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465 Why is this important?
- my server requires authentication checked
- Your Verizon Online user name
- Your Verizon Online password
- Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked.
