We have the Verizon Double Play for $82.99 + $10 router. We're now only streaming, so don't need the tv portion. Called Verizon and they won't let us out of the contract until January. Threatened to leave and they had no problem wth that. Ugh. What else can we do??

You can drop your TV service down to minimum level (ask for broadcast only).
Contract requires 2 years.
Even if you leave, they will charge you the ETF.
This is pretty common amongst all providers.

You CAN terminate at anytime. But if you are in contract they will charge you a penalty. And last I heard it was possible to drop TV service, although really discouraged. You might not like the price they charge for the remaining services.
Common practice in many industries.
