Verify that the arrow under conversations (>) is clicked to the on positions. If you hover over it it will say open or close . It works fine here Win 7 IE 9 or FireFox

There is no arrow under 'conversations'. The whole column under it is blank. Going right is 'contacts', calendars.. Under contacts is "in-box'. I suspect I mistakenly hit a 'hide. button at some point because 'compose' and other folder summaries 'sent', 'drafts', etc. used to be there, but are not now. I have been able to find a restore procedure, but have found a clumsey alternative of selecting a contact from my address book, then clicking 'send email' which then provides a draft. The forward and reply buttons work ok. It's just a pain if I want to send and email to someone not in my list. arg

you may want to clear any stored browser cache AKA browsing history. Also try this link https://mail.verizon.com/webmail/driver?nimlet=showmessages&view=emails#mail_Emails_INBOX
Last resort may be to reset IE, - Control panel - internet options - advanced- reset (note you will lose any custom settings) . NOTE I would recommend using IE9, some have repported issues with later versions of IE
Off topic for the daring http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2013/11/07/ie11-for-windows-7-globally-available-for-consumers-an... ..Note I do not recommend this "upgrade".
