According to this help page:
Starting February 2017, Verizon will no longer provide verizon.net email service. Instead they will focus on providing their internet, TV and phone customers the best experience possible. Verizon has teamed up with AOL to provide verizon.net email customers with AOL Mail, an enhanced email experience.
Further, it states that:
When it is time for you to move your verizon.net mail to AOL Mail, you will be notified by an email from Verizon and messaging on webmail.verizon.com.
Prior to last week, the page listed the anticipated rollout date as "February 15. 2017", but now it's been changed to "February 2017".
Is there an way that I can manually initiate the migration to AOL Mail? I'd like to utilize AOL Mail's IMAP support for this account, and I'm kinda getting tired of waiting.

I haven't received any email notification from Verizon yet. But lo and behold, I can't access my emails today. I truly hope that they didn't just decide to "migrate" my account with no notice. However, based on how Verizon is handling all of this, I wouldn't doubt it.
Anyone else having issues accessing emails today with no prior notification from Verizon?
If I performed at my job like Verizon is doing in this case, I would be fired.

@ronzie wrote:@so far I have received the switch-over notification for only two of the @verizon.net addresses associated with my account. I went to the website in the link provided and did what was needed. Other @verizon.net email addresses I use, however, have not received the notifications, so I have not been able to do the switch.
Today one of those addresses is no longer able to log in and check email. The error log for my pop email program sometimes says "Server incoming.verizon.net rejected your username and password ([SYS/TEMP] Service temporarily unavailable)", other times it says "Connection closed unexpectedly by server". I can still send mail using that USERNAME/PASSWORD.
The logon problem today, in some areas, is not related to the migration. It was down for several hours but should be up now.
Not sure what was hit, but here in FL and already migrated to AOL, there was no problem.

I was recenly shocked to see that Verizon discontinued their mail service and only gave me 30 days notice to transfer it to AOL. There are a lot of customers who are not technically savvy and this really wasn't enough time to prepare.
That being said, I stopped using AOL mail for sensitive communication for a few years now because of security concerns. While verizon's email did not have the easiest interface or the best spam filters, I had little worries about my email being hijacked or my computer getting infected from malicious ads being served on the site.
Every time I go to login or logout of AOL, my browser is saying the website is not maintaining a secure connection and there are security risks on the page.
However, I suspect this is no longer's Verizon problem, right? Even though they actually own AOL.
Although we signed up for a service with the promise of having a trustworthy email provider, paying customers are now cast off to AOL so they can try and squeeze more money out of us.
What a nice touch!
I suppose anyone who might have sensitive or financial documents going to their verizon email should be concerned about the security over at AOL.

This was a terrible answer, the original poster asked a simple yes no question. Can we just do it now? Apparently the anwer is no, which seems kind if dumb. Just let us do it now without an abitrary deadline after you notify us.

Hello, why do we have to wait to be notified? I am already getting emails from services that are telling me to update my accounts, since they see "verizon" is discontinuing support? How do we get ahead of this if we have NOT yet received notification?
Also - is billing being reduced??

AOL email is a mess. Verizon downgrades our email on mobile & PC's at home with no consideration of customers service nor dollars spent. I had to keep me Verizon.net email address for professional & personal use. With moderate knowledge of email setup I was able to set my PC & mobile phone a little over a month ago. It did not carry over my files of sent mail or sub categories for professional use. Ironically it carried over my files from Comcast in 2008 but nothing else. It also set up an AOL account that I didn't need or want. 5 days ago my AOL account gave me notice that my password was missing yet it was still there. I was not able to send or receive anything. So I had to redo my AOL password & that was working again. But little did I know that AOL email governs all my other passwords. So. I had to setup my email pop server on my iPhone both incoming & outgoing, also same had to be done on my PC. This took me hours to understand & to fix.
THIS IS NOT RIGHT !!! At least there should be some kind of password worning prior to a 30 day disable of all my email. Better yet this should never have had to be changed at all. I'm semi retired, my wife & I spend $207 on Fios & $170 on 2 iPhones. With a monthly spend of $377 you would think they could have kept our email status quo. Verizon's BEAN COUNTERS must have come up with this deal to acquire AOL & then outsource their email. Well I am going to another cell provider, cancel my land line & start streaming myTV. I don't think I'm alone - this is the straw that broke my back. VERIZON I AM SOOO DONE WITH YOU.

Several questions:
1. Can I search the forum thread for keywords or do I need to wade through 30+ pages of replies to see if my questions have already been answered? Probably just not seeing it, but I can't find a search function.
2. Why does Verizon need my date of birth to complete my email move to AOL?
3. If I move my main email address to AOL, does that also move all my others (wife, kids)?

They shouldn't be. WARNING there are some spoofers try to take advantage of the Verizon Migration to steal your identity.
I recommend that when you get the email notification you ignore any links in the message. Instead log on to the webmail.verizon.net site and see if you are ready to migrate, and follow links from that site.
As far as your other email accounts, only your alias (if you have one) migrates with your email account. All others (e.g. kids) are done sepately and perhaps at different times.

I received the emailed provider notice from Verizon, but deleted it in error. The time is getting close to the 30 days to change. I now see this message when I sign in:
- Coming Soon! Verizon will no longer provide verizon.net email service; but, you’ll have options. Stay tuned for updates! Learn more
But clicking on the link only leads to the question/answer list for migrating.
How can I find a link to actually change my email account over to aol ?

The first message you have was only a headsup. The conversion are being staggered over several months.
Remember also that if you use the Verizon/Yahoo interface you are not being converted, at least at this time.
If you got and deleted the second message, you in fact don't need it. It was designed mostly for those people who never use Webmail to let them know they were ready to convert.
Just logon to https://webmail.verizon.com If you are ready to convert you will see the links there to the AOL conversion.

I've had the changes coming to email banner on the webmail page for about a month.
I got my migration notice this afternoon. It came in an email from Verizon and when I signed in to Verizon web mail I got the migrate to AOL page instead of my web mail inbox.
I clicked on keep Verizon.net email and it stepped me right through the process. It does prompt for a new password and asks for DOB and a phone number to send either a text verification or voice verification number that you then enter as one of the last steps on the AOL mail set up page. It was fast and easy.
Got a message back from AOL and the AOL web mail came up verifying the migration.
I then put the new password into my Thunderbird clients on the computers on my network and also into our smartphones. Everything is working fine so far.

It depends on the day you receive the actual email notification that links you to the webmail page to change over to the AOL host or whichever host you decide to use. The email I received from Verizon was dated 15 May and said email service for my account would end effective 14 June.

Someone PLEASE help me migrate my e-mail account to AOL. I no longer have access to my e-mail. This is ridiculous - so much time spent on this nonsense.

Thank you! (I htink), this was the first indication that I had that said I would not be affected by the email mess if my verizon .net address took me to Yahoo mail, at least until they change their minds about Yahoo.

In that Verizon no longer provides e-mail service, shouldn't the cost of verizon internet service decrease?

I agree, verizon should cut our bills in half if they are not providing the full service that we signed up for.

They are offering it to those that had it previosuly. Just migrating to AOL email servers instead.
And dropping it just reduces the costs going forward so rates may not need to be raised as fast.

If we had to switch to AOL the least we could get is dependable service. Nearly everyday, email is not accessible through mail.aol.com. The site doesn't respond. The AOL mobile app just as bad not pulling down mail. While Verizon webmail was not the nicest interface, at least you could get your mail.

Since Verizon is discontinuing e-mail service will my fees be reduced since losing a service?
