According to this help page:
Starting February 2017, Verizon will no longer provide verizon.net email service. Instead they will focus on providing their internet, TV and phone customers the best experience possible. Verizon has teamed up with AOL to provide verizon.net email customers with AOL Mail, an enhanced email experience.
Further, it states that:
When it is time for you to move your verizon.net mail to AOL Mail, you will be notified by an email from Verizon and messaging on webmail.verizon.com.
Prior to last week, the page listed the anticipated rollout date as "February 15. 2017", but now it's been changed to "February 2017".
Is there an way that I can manually initiate the migration to AOL Mail? I'd like to utilize AOL Mail's IMAP support for this account, and I'm kinda getting tired of waiting.

@fmiller8075 wrote:Does anyone know how long you will be without email access when you migrate to AOL or another service provider?
Will our costs be lowered, since Verizon will no longer be the service provider?
Yeah, right. But Verizon now owns AOL, so the amount of service is the same. Be glad we don't have the AOL name on our emails 😉 but that might come later.

I accidentally trashed the notice, or maybe I never got one. Do you have the link for starting it? I was just thinking, Vz should be doing this, not us.

Is there a roll out timeframe in PA. Although my wife and I received the VZ email notice and have converted over to AOL, when I checked with my adult children they had not received the notice. They live in West Chester and Langhorn pa.

They sent us two e-mails to each account. Plus, once you are in the one month switch period, logging in to the online site (netmail.verizon.net) takes you to a welcome page that explains the options and has links for migrating to AOL or other e-mail providers.
If you aren't seeing the new welcome page, you're probably not in the transition period yet.

I also use Verizon Yahoo and did rec. a AOL NOTICE on my "dashboard" page but links in that page did not bring up instructions/settings for AOL migration. I had chosen to keep verizon.net e-mail with AOL.
As far as I know I did not rec. an E-MAIL from Verizon like some people are saying they have rec'd.
"Chat" with Verizon/Facebook rep. stated that my account was still with Yahoo and that no migrations to AOL would be done till Yahoo (merger?) is figured out. I'm confused about that statement since I had already seen NOTICE/AOL.

I believe I received my notification to migrate but then I lost it. How can I be sure? I don't want to lose everything in my email.

Does anyone else hate AOL as much as I do? I wanted to keep my email address because I've used it everywhere. I liked Verizon Webmail - it was easily to understand and well-designed. AOL is strictly 3rd rate, uses tiny type, poor contrast between read and not real emails, user interface is beyond clunky, hard to read, no longer reachable through My Verizon. Is there now any reason to visit My Verizon more than maybe once a month. I think that, despite what the bean counters have advocated, Verizon has hurt its brand.

And what's with the ridiculous process for using AOL on my mobile phone? Tell me again why I need to download ALTO. I still haven't done it. This is so confusing.

Still no real answer as to why they are getting out of the email business. I'm not only a client but also a stock holder. Let it be known that if I lose my email account, I will cancel my FIOS , regardless of me paying a huge termination of contract.
I hope somehow that someone at FIOS can answer my concerns.

My experiencce was that I received two e-mails about 2 days apart. Also, as soon as I got the first e-mail, there was a new "Important Message" welcome screen when I signed in at netmail.verizon.net. The welcome screen has two links in the message, one to migrate to AOL, the other to go elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply. That's the problem. After the first message disappeared I never received another one and when I go to Verizon messages and click on the link to migrate to AOL nothing happens, I just get answers to the most frequently asked questions.

How do I keep my Verizon email account active and working?
I heard on a radio show that Verizon is going to terminate email and email addresses.

Not only that, we're being foisted off to AOL's UNPAID ADD-ridden service. If they're truly owned by verizon, we should have paid accounts, or we should be given a monthly credit ($25) to pay for up to 5 AOL ADD-Free accounts. This is such a ripoff.

I just changed my POP email to AOL so I don't have to change my email address, which pleases me; thank you Verizon. Now that Verizon is no longer providing email services to me as of this date 3/22/17, am I to expect a corresponding drop in my monthly charge?

I was worried about that - I reviewed the terms of service and sure enough, looks like a spam nightmare. I have had this account for years, but it is time to make a switch.

TO EVERYONE WHO'S ASKING "Why" and "How?" and "Should I?"
Please read this thread from the beginning. And they're not cutting our service because they own AOL. Some of us can leave and some must retain their email addresses. Whether you want to make the switch is up to you. I'm grateful I won't have "AOL" in my email address. Yes, I also detest AOL, but I must stay.

I received the AOL migration notice from Verizon on 3/14/2017 which stated that I needed to make a decision by April 10th. I clicked on the "Remind Me Later" link at the bottom of the notice. How do I get back to the notice with the AOL setup link when I am ready to start the migration? I have logged out and back into my email and do not see any "Email Service Notice" link as indicated in the other forum messages posted here.
Please advise how I can start the migration?

You need to log-in to your e-mail account(s) on Verizon webmail in order to migrate to AOL. When you log-in to your account, you should be re-directed to a page about the AOL migration (rather than directly to your e-mail). There are links available to either opt-in to AOL or not on this page. There are also other links available on the page which lead to more available details about the migration.

I AM NOT redirected to that page about AOL. I'm directed to a page about my FIOS services. They're already making a mess of this. Do you have the URL of the correct page? Thanks.

Did you receive any e-mails about the change? Can you access your Verizon e-mail through their website?
I'm not sure if relevant, but I have DSL, as FIOS isn't available in my area. From reading this thread, I've gotten the impressions Verizon may not be asking all their customers to do this at once.
I don't have a "correct URL." I didn't bookmark it, as it appeared every time I logged into either of my 2 e-mail accounts so that seemed unneccessary, and since I've already migrated to AOL, I can't pull that up that again.

Katz,
When I log in to netmail.verizon.net, I am redirected to: https://webmail.verizon.com/signin/LdapBind.jsp
This is the "Welcome Page" that starts off, "Effective {date specific to your account}, we'll no longer provide verizon.net email service. Other than this change, your Verizon service(s) won’t be affected. We have two options for you to consider. Please review both options and take action today to avoid losing access to your email." This is followed by too much information to paste here.
The two links on the Welcome Page are:
https://webmail.verizon.com/signin/RedirectToAolRegistration.jsp
https://webmail.verizon.com/signin/OtherProvider.jsp
When I tried to use these links from a cold start in another browser, they took me to the Webmail sign in page. I didn't pursue past that point.
I hope this helps.

ps. Kudo for telling people to read the thread. Most of the questions they ask are already answered.
