Google Pixel 2 XL: Don't get the Asurian Insurance

I recently purchased the Google Pixel 2XL with Verizon, 128gb fully loaded.  It dropped off the side of my bed and cracked.  Since then, I took it to the Verizon store and was told it would cost $29 to pay for the deductible and get the screen replaced.  Since then, I've learned that it will cost $200 to replace the phone outright.  I'm paying an extra $29/ month for insurance and think it's outrageous that a company like Asurion cannot get their products together!

I've seen a few posts on this topic but want to know what the end result of this was.
