bringing unlocked phone to my plan

I am slightly confused.

Is an unlocked phone only used with prepaid?

I currently have the Verizon Plan Small 2GB with additional 999GB extra data. On my plan, I have a Pixel2 and a flip phone. I want to upgrade the flip phone to a Google 5A 5G unlocked phone.

I would purchase this unlocked phone from store.google.com store. I also need a new sim card and I read somewhere that Verizon would give me one free of charge?

Can I do this?
