I have a fairly new Pixel 2 and use the standar Google Message app for text messages.
I can send and receive texts to anyone (individual or group) except 1 person!
I was able to send a long text to her on Dec. 14th and she replied, both successful.
Then on Dec. 20th I tried again and got the message "Not sent. Tap to try again."
Whether taping to try again or sending a new text, I get the same message and she doesn't receive the text.
She can continue to send me texts (and I receive them), no problem.
She has not blocked me in her Contacts, nor have I blocked her.
We are both on Verizon.
HELP!!! Suggestions?!?!??!

I have a pixel xl and I can't SMS one contact. I can MMS but not SMS. I can send through a desktop texting app, but just says "sending" and then "not sent." It's only for one contact. I blocked then unblocked her. I deleted her contact entirely. I restarted. All to no avail.

Bessa77, being able to message your friends is important. Which messaging app are you using? What happens when you delete the contact, then message your friend without re adding them back on?

Hi, I am having the same problem. Do you have further suggestions? I can send to the individual via MMS but not SMS. They can send to me individually, and they do not have me blocked. After deleting their contact, I still receive the "message not sent. tap to retry" message.

We want to make sure that this is solved for you. Having the inability to not send messages correctly can be a huge pain. Are you on the latest software and application update? Another option is looking into which application you are using. If you are using Verizon Message Plus, try the standard application that came on the device and vice versa.

This problem just started a few days ago. So far it is only my wife I can't text to. I tried removing the (1) from her phone number. That did not work. I restarted the phone and still the text did not send.
Any other ideas?

shedor123, it's important that you can send texts. I'm here to help further. What messaging app are you using? When did this start? What is the make/model of your phone?

I had this same problem and the following fixed it.
In contacts, go to the contact you are having problems with.
Click the "Text" button.
My phone asked me which number to use. I selected the mobile number of the contact and clicked the always button.
Texts now work.
I think the problem was that an incoming text got associated with a name in my contacts, but not the mobile number of that person. When I tried to respond to a text, I think it was trying to use the wrong (non-mobile) number.
Like other people have complained the other phone was an iphone and it only happened on a small number of contacts. My wife had this same problem and the above fixed it for her as well.

I've been having this issue for a few days (only when texting my wife). I found that I could send group or MMS messages and she received them fine however, any SMS text would not send. I did as suggested and went to the Contacts entry and selected the general "Text" option. It didn't ask me to confirm anything but did take me to the already open message chain. Once there, I was able to send SMS again with no problem.

We don't want you to not be able to send an important text to your spouse. To ensure that we are on the same page. Is your wife's device sending and receiving texts as expected? BrittanyC_VZW

Just had the same issue happen with my pixel 3, and this solution worked. In Contacts app for the person you have to hold the "Text" button until a prompt comes up, and then select "Always" (just clicking it takes you to the messaging app).
I could only recieve messages from this number before, but could'nt send.

Why would it be on a messaging app? That's not the problem, we're trying to send a text message to someone using the way the phone allows us to send a text not a social media direct message or off of an app. We are trying to use the text messaging app the phone provides to get the information, but for whatever reason it is not allowing only ONE PERSON to receive my messages. Read the whole problem rather than asking questions that have nothing to do with the initial problem. Its not an app it's the network that won't allow a singular person to receive my text message.

My apologies for the confusion. Which text messaging app do you use? For instance, do you use the native app, i Message, or Message+? Having this information will help us identify what is causing the issue. There are instances where the issue is app related, even for sending a text to one party. Does this help clarify?
When you send a message to this party, does it show up as sent on your end?

I have a Pixel 2 and had the same problem with only 1 person. I found that person had 2 entries in my Contacts list with one having only a email address in it. It was a gmail account. I deleted the one with the email address and the problem went away.
Hope this works for you. Good luck!

Had same prob with Pixel 4, adding a 1 before the phone number worked. But don't understand why some contacts need the 1 and others don't.

Found a fix for this on my phone by editing the contact. I removed the one before their phone number, and then deleted a duo video link.

I am now having this same problem. I have the Pixel 2 with the new 8.1.0 that was pushed to me last week. Any word on a solution from Verizon yet? I see this problem has been around since at least January 4!

Hey! Nothing from Verizon. However, I saw many posts about removing or
adding the 1 at the beginning of the phone number. It took two tried but
that worked.
Good luck!

That worked! I just blew some tech support's mind. I was chatting with him/her when your response came through. I quickly tried it and got an immediate response from the one contact. The tech support person got a kick out of your username. Thanks!!!
