Hi, if your phone is unlocked, then you can delete the Verizon eSIM and install a different one. But if you only just bought this phone and it is showing locked to Verizon...unfortunately, there is no way to get it unlocked from overseas.

How long have you had your current device? Do you know how long your device has been showing the download message for the esim?
