Intermittently delayed texts for a couple of years now

Hello. The delay ranges from about 10-12 hours to as much as 30+ hours. It started while I was with Straight Talk (using Verizon towers). I thought that switching to actual Verizon would solve the issue, but it hasn't. I haven't ruled out bad actors like man in the middle attacks or SIM hijacking, because when I did get a break from this problem, it was after I switched to Verizon (new SIM, no message issues for about 2 months), and when I changed a Sim recently (no texting delays for about one month). Anyway since someone might say MITM or SIM hacks are crazy, I am just wondering if I can get any help to solve this issue, or if someone could actually verify that my device is the only device attached to my phone number. I use Google's messaging app. For some reason, when I tried Message+, it would not get all of my texts.

Hello, Cyborg2024, we know it's important for yoru messages to be working correctly. Can you please clarify whatโ€™s going on as far as the delay? You mentioned you've been experiencing this issue since your were using Straight Talk. Did you purchase a new phone when moving to Verizon? What messaging app are you currently using?

Thank you for replying Lauren!

To clarify, I will send texts, and my recipients will receive my texts without issue. However, there will be times when I will stop receiving texts from them until the next day. Then I will get a lot of old messages all at once. In a few cases, I will not receive some messages at all.

I brought my own Google Pixel 6a to Straight Talk, and I used the same phone when I switched to Verizon.

I have been using the Google messaging app.

Thanks for those details, Cyborg2024. Are voice and data working correctly for you? Is the messaging issue happening no matter where you are located? You mentioned your messaging was working after switching your SIM card. Did you start having an issue while using the same SIM card or after changing your SIM card again?

Thanks again Lauren!

Voice and data are working fine. The messaging issue is intermittent, so it can happen anywhere, anytime: outside, inside, while at work, shopping, home, etc.

The first Verizon SIM card worked fine for I think a couple of months.  This was about a year ago. Then the issues started happening, and I put up with them for about another year until I got a weird SIM error a couple of months ago. The In-store sales person didn't know how to fix it, so I asked for a SIM replacement, and voila, everything worked great for a month. Then a few weeks ago, the 'delayed texts' issue started happening again.

Cyborg2024, thanks for the update. We want to gather more details. Have you tried utilizing a different messaging app? If yes, what occurs?

Thanks for replying Gilbert. Sorry for the late reply Team.

I tried using Verizon's message+ app for a while, but it suffered from the same issues. In fact, I was missing even more messages in Verizon's messaging app, so I ended up just deleting it.

I happened to be talking about this issue to a friend who had done some Verizon support. He said something about my SIM needed to be resynced. I don't know if this makes any sense to your team. But even then, the problem is intermittent, so I'm not sure that would solve it either. Speak of intermittent, it hasn't happened for two weeks now. ?? But sooner or later, it will return as usual. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Thanks again.

Thank you for the info. We want to make sure you get this taken care of. Would it be possible to go here and try looking for your device and using the "Unable to Receive Text Messages" option to troubleshoot: https://www.verizon.com/support/devices/

Ok thank you for the link and instructions. Since this issue is intermittent, it may be a while before I reply, because the problem hasn't happened for a few weeks now. When it does happen again, I will revisit this discussion and follow your steps.

In the meantime, one question: When I followed your link, the troubleshooting page did not specifically list "Unable to Receive Text Messages". If I searched for that phrase, I got something like "cannot send or receive text messages" which is a completely different issue to solve, and perhaps much easier! Did I navigate to the wrong page? I first landed on a page that listed all of the devices on the account, and then I chose my device. And although the resulting page did list some common issues to troubleshoot, it didn't  offer anything that was specific about being unable to receive text messages, yet still able to send text messages, even after a search.

That troubleshooting link is just a generic bunch of common issues, mostly related to SIM issues and other things Verizon network related. Since this current issue is uncommon and nothing Verizon can control you won't find any custom troubleshooting steps for this issue at any Verizon site.

Great question. Our troubleshooting guides start with more general troubleshooting steps, then get more focused on the issue. The category you chose is correct. ~Peter
