Message+ - MDN Has changed message after poweroff

Google Pixel...when phone is restarted or powered off after manually closing the Message+ app ...upon power up....when opening message+...a small window opens about MDN has Changed...resetting app.(it is hard to get verbatim as the message goes away quickly)..then proceeds to walk thru the first time app startup screens...any idea how to fix this?

Well, thought I would give Message+ another shot, installed version 6.6.3 of the app. It is acting a bit different, after installation and setup, tried a couple of reboots, now I get a Message syncing indication, but when I open the app, it needs to be restarted. So seems like the original problem, EXCEPT,  now a new issue with 6.6.3. I have an LG Urbane 2 watch, so it uses Message+ as part of the ability to make/receive calls. If I go through the complete Call Setup on the watch, Message+ no longer sends messages to the watch, however, if I do NOT complete the Calling Setup on my watch, Message+ seems to work fine (on my watch) at least in my first round of testing. 

Watch is also running Message+ 6.6.3

Android Wear (now Wear OS) 2.9.0.185 (both devices)

So, kinda looks like 2 steps forward, and 3 giant steps back.

Not sure about anyone else, but, after testing with 6.5.2 installed, it appears I can reboot, restart, power off and back on without the need to restart VzMessage+. Message+ works correctly again.

may have spoke a bit early. Found if I have Message+ running in the background, it will "sync - Temp background process" at a restart and I can open it without "Start Messaging", however, if it is not running in the background, there is a chance it may need to be restarted after the device full boots. So it is getting there.

I must apologize, after repeated tests my earlier statement

that after the 6.5.1 update it  seemed to be working if you wait for 10 minutes” is not correct. 

The problem still persists even after waiting for 20 minutes. I would like to go back to 6.5.0 to do some additional testing.

so any other app seems to work. The reason I would like the Message+ app to work, I use the ability to share with my tablet. When it works the app is great. And again, the only issue I have when I restart my Oreo device, Message + must be restarted as if it has never been started, so I get the "start messaging" and do you want a public profile prompts. So for now I am using another app.

Thanks so much for your posts. This has been going on for quite some time. We have information that will help everyone listed in this thread.

Please go to Settings > Apps > Message+ > Permissions and toggle storage off and then back on. Then power cycle the device. If the behavior still persists, uninstall the application and then reinstall the application again Uninstall Apps - Pixel / Pixel XL, Phone by Google | Verizon Wireless  After the install, power cycle the Pixel. Once the device powers back on, set up Messages+ again and retest. If this does not resolve this behavior, reply with an update.

I have had this problem since Sept or earlier on my HTC One M8 so it has nothing to do with Pixel only phones.  I do not have this problem on my Nexus 7 tablet or on my Win 7 PC.  I had this problem with the stock Verizon Android release and in November I change the OS on my phone to Lineage OS and the problem with the Messaging Plus app is the same before and after OS change.  I tried doing several of the cache clear, reinstall etc. attempts but nothing seems to stop the thing from going to the welcome screen all the time.  It is even worse now in that it hangs in the 'starting messaging' part of the process sometimes and I have to kill the app and open it again to get to the 'no I do not want a public profile' page.  My phone is unlocked and rooted so if someone at Verizon wants to try and debug it using a rooted phone I can try some things that you may not have tried.  Seems to me this should not be hard to fix.  Go back to June 2017 or something like that  before it was updated and look at your version control system to see what changes were made.  Clearly something change made in the release from around that time is causing the problem.  I did not see this problem for 2 years before then.

I went to another app for the same reason. After talking to the fifth tech support who finally told me that they know this is a bigger problem then they are willing to admitt, and as of yet they can't find an answer.

Here we STILL are, it has been almost two weeks since my last post, about two months with the issue and still no solutions. And before asked I have the newest update, the phone is running 8.1.0 android, Dec 5th security patch. Message + ver. 6.5.0. And now my wifes phone is now acting worse, if the phone is shut down overnight to charge sometimes we have to reboot the phone 3-5 times to get "Message+" to open, it freezes mid start-up. If it wasn't such a pain I would switch phones with her but I feel that the issue is NOT in the phone, it is in possibly the software or the user profile. Hey Verizon how about a REAL Present solve this for the NEW YEAR.

Please allow us to further review the details. Can you please follow this link http://vz.to/2DVhgjh to check and see if the messages + application is set up as the default messaging app? Also, you have mentioned your wife received a replacement phone, can you please let us know if the messages + app has ever worked properly on her original Google Pixel device?

 

We would also like for you to uninstall the updates for the messages + application. To do so please go to settings> Apps & notifications > Messages + app> select Uninstall updates to the app to go back to the factory version of the app. Once updates are uninstalled, open your messages + app and go through the initial set-up. Please keep us updated on the progress.

 

I have also sent you a private message to assist with further escalating this concern should the issue persist. Please respond to that private message. Thank you.

I've made a decission, you can't seem to find a fix or respond so I have gone to a different SMS app.

Have followed your steps as requested see attached images, first Message+ was already set as SMS app, second there is no option for a factory version , it's either force stop or uninstall. Lastly this issue has existed from day one with both the original and replacement phones.

After following your steps the issue still exists.

My wifes PIXEL after being off overnite starts as though the app was never installed. Each morning when selecting the app it says starting service then it goes thru the public private routine. We have followed ALL the suggestions as stated, clear cache, chechk storage , accesability. This is getting very frustrating, Verizon even replace phone to no avail.

I have this same issue with my Pixel XL with android 8.0.0

Every time I restart the phone, I have to go through setting up the app all over again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I have checked for phone updates. I have checked in the settings to ensure that the settings are all set to on. I would really like for this to be fixed. I really like that the app syncs my texts across all my platforms, but if this continues to be an issue, I won't be able to use it. Please get someone working on this ASAP

We can relate to how irritating errors can be, and we want you to be able to enjoy your app jut as much as you do. Help is here. Please go to Settings > Apps > Message+ > Permissions > Please check under Storage and ensure this setting is set to ON then test. What happens?

It has been on the whole time. I checked after reading this 'fix' in a

previous post on the thread. I have tried all the troubleshooting options

you all have listed for this with no results.
