Pixel 6a May Update

Again Verizon is late with the monthly update.

The version Verizon lists on its update page for the 6a for May is actually the version for April -

Release date: 05/01/2023

Android™ Security Patch Level: March 2023

Software Version: TQ2A.230405.003.G1

From the OTA Images page -

(TQ2A.230405.003.G1, April 2023, Verizon, Verizon MVNOs)

There is no Verizon version for May listed on the OTA Images page.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't release an update for May since they probably think they already have based on their update page posting. No other carriers are posting updates late and Verizon never explains the holdup. Just another bad customer service here lately.

This is really getting old. No other carrier is delaying the updates like this.

We understand how this can be a frustrating situation, and we value your feedback. In this case, software updates are released as the developer makes them available, in this case once Google has the update ready, it will be released to all users. If there is anything else we can do for you in the meantime, let us know.

Google released the update on May 1st. This isn't their problem.

Verizon Customer Reps: You need to check your facts before replying, seriously.

Per the Official Google site, Google released the May 2023 update on May 1st for the Pixel 6a, plain and simple:

https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/213627684/google-pixel-update-may-2023

Therefore, it is now sitting with Verizon, who has been repeatedly and is once again  late in releasing it to its customers who ultimately pay your salaries.

At a minimum, we're asking for far better transparency as to these continued delays. Ultimately, we need these monthly security updates to protect our devices, and more importantly, our personal information for our entire family.

For example, if Verizon needs more time to test these updates before releasing them so they do not cause problems, I could understand that.

But the repeated delays, silence, and then deflecting blame are truly beneath all of you. We expect better from a carrier that purports to offer the best. (Emphasis on "purports".)

My Pixel 7 Pro has already been updated to the latest May security update, but there is no May update available for my Pixel 6A despite frequent checks.

So what is the true problem with the Pixel 6 series and updates from Verizon?

Remember, the April update was released late so you cannot conflate the two.

If Verizon needs more time to QC these monthly updates, then be up front about when they will be ready, even if it's just an ETA.

If you don't have the staff, then I suggest that you get them, because many of us are seriously considering dropping you since the monthly prices are far better elsewhere.

Your prices go up and the service goes down. I know I'm far from the only person that feels this way about Verizon.

What gets me is that only the 6 Series is affected by these delays. I think I finally got April's update on 4/28 on my 6 Pro. Is it because that's the first iteration of the Tensor chip? Then it should have been a problem since release, not just since March (I know there was at least one other time it was delayed, but not several months in a row.)

I'll probably upgrade in the fall, and maybe switch carriers. I've been with Verizon (and it's predecessors) since 1998. It's just hard to make the change when you don't know what coverage will be like.

We are sorry to read that you are thinking of leaving Verizon theblade1959. In this case, the updates are pushed out as soon as the developer makes them available to us, but we will pass along your feedback, as we know how important it is to receive these updates. If you have any other questions, we are here to help.
