Activating Palm treo 700P

I recently changed to the palm pre.

I want to give my palm treo 700P to my daughter that is on my family plan.

When I call Verizon to switch her existing phone to this one - verizon demands a data plan.

That part of the palm no longer works - so I would be throwing away money.

The phone works just fine.

Verizon blames it on Palm.

That makes no sense.

Is there a way to activate the phone without the plan. I switched my phone about 3 weeks ago.

I take it you never had a data plan on the phone before when you were using it?  Most likely you're going to be stuck with that data plan requirement.

I actually did have a data plan. But it stunk, so I got rid of it. There is no reason to have one for my kid- she just wants the phone.

Yeah then there is no way to get out of the data plan. I would say then get another phone, but even if your child wants a "cool" phone a data plan will be requried with that most likely. Verizon started this new data plan required on 3G phones.
