I have discovered the battery life for my T'bolt is increased if I turn the phone OFF when I charge it.  I hope this helps someone.

there's a method called "bump charge" where you charge it while it's on until the light goes green. then power down and plug it back in. the light will be back to orange and it will charge for about another 20 minutes and go green again. it seems to make a big difference (probably similar to your experience when turning it off to charge). i only mention this because i hate turning it off to charge for a couple hours.
