HTC Thunderbolt mobile hotspot w/ windows XP does not display http// sites

I am linked with my HTC Thunderbolt to my laptop running windows XP, internet explorer 8 and can only display https// sites. Will not display any http//. I also have a laptop with Windows Vista and IE 8 and it displays all sites. I have changed security levels and this makes no difference. Any ideas?
