I recently saw the unboxing video of the thunderbolt on youtube. It states the Thunderbolt has a slot for a sim card for 4g lte network. Will Verizon ship the Sim card with the phone, will it be shipped at a later date, or do we have to purchase it seperately for 4G access? Anybody hear anything on this. Can't find info anywhere?

I bought a Thunderbolt today and the store Rep put the SIM card in there. It is required for 4G.

Not just 4g service, you need a sim card for service at all on 4g devices.. Just a minor distinction I thought I would point out

I haven't tried taking out the SIM card, but from knowing how the phones are provisioned and what the SIM card says, the card is only needed for the 4G service. It should operate on the 3G network even without a card.

The phone actually will not operate without the SIM Card. I had this very issue where I was changing the phone to a diferent line tried to activate without sim and I had to go into the store to get a new SIM Card because the old number was attached to the SIM. the activation process is also completely different no more *228. Welcome to LTE.

Take your card out and turn your phone on and see what happens.. your esn is on the sim card, your phone will not have active phone service without it

VZW is using a CSIM application on the SIM card. All your 3G CDMA credentials are also stored on the SIM card now.

just made sure the rep understands what you are doing...
the upgrade needs to be applied to the line A, and the sim card needs to be activated on line B
