Well I tried getting the update through out the night and I still get "no software update avalible". Lets just see if the second leaked image is true or not. Post anything here if anyone get the Android 4.0 ICS update.
I wouldn't expect the update to be pushed until late tonight (I'm assuming you are on the east coast and it is already the 9th for you). Typically they start late on the first night.
True...hope it come out today
I believe that the ota's start at 11:59pm the day it is released. So, if may ninth is the release date. It will be available for one minute today. I don't know what time zone they use.
So tonight we should look for the ota?
Earliest would be 11:59 east coast time if the rumor is true.
Yea watch this rumor be a complete hoax.
Since the latest Rezound ICS leak is reported to be fairly stable, we should be getting the OTA soon, even if it does not happen midnight tonight. It is more important for HTC and Verizon to get it right than it is for them to get it immediately, even though a lot of Rezound owners are weary of waiting.
I recently received an OTA update to ICS for my Acer A500 and also used a custom Rom to upgrade my older Viewsonic GTablet (Team DRH) to ICS, so I am looking forward to having ICS on all my devices. My wife got a Galaxy Nexus, so she has had the benefits of ICS all along. I must say, though, that the Rezound runs quite well with Gingerbread. I never felt that my wife had a better phone than the one I chose. Once we get ICS, the Rezound should be better than the Nexus.
Since this is a Verizon forum, I doubt that many forum users are trying to use their Rezound on a non-Verizon network, but if you are, be cautioned that the latest leak (and presumably the OTA) contains changes that block you from using the Rezound on another network. So be warned.
i have spoken with a verizon rep and im SHOCKED that they actually new something bout this OTA according to the rep it was suppose to release this morning but they have determined there was still bugs and its been pushed back 2 weeks so we gotta wait a little longer so yes its a bust but not a complete bust
I don't know if its more shocking that they one of them admitting to knowing something (about ICS) or that they could not take five minutes and tell us to stop hitting update software on our phones as no update was coming.
If they knew this morning that the update was a no go, then they could have posted something in the Rezound forum. One sentenced would do.
"Hey, we tried to get you the update today, but circumstances beyond our control will delay it two weeks."
Simple and to the point.
I totally agree I'm just shocked they actually knew something
Apparently, you found the one rep who actually follows all the other sites we do.
Show the proof of what the rep said.
No apparently she looked at her internal from what I guessed cus I asked her u can show in your internal documents that it was suppose to release today and she confirmed that maybe she's the only one who actually knows something
Ahh i see well maybe tonight or tomorrow the update will come out. Ill be patiant and wait for the OTA. Im not messng with leaked versions
Really show proof I talked to them on the phone can't really show proof I'm sorry we just gotta wait 2 weeks
All good will see what happens
Timothy at Verizon Support is confirming that they are not even going to speculate on a new release date again, with all the push back that is going on with the ICS release. With no word re: why or why not from Verizon; it seems a bit odd they have not tried to assure the customer that they want a bug free product release, instead we have silence! Rather deafening isn’t it….
its amazing that verizon fails to keep its custmorers up to date on ICS updates. I wouldnt get too excited over this. Lest update Verizon thought it would be funny and cute to throw in that location agent that doesnt even work with the rezound that currently as a 1.1 star average review on the android market. Who knows what they will think of next.
It does work. You just need to leave the application on your phone. It was already on the phone they just never had a app for it but now its there. It's completely useless its like NFL mobile if you dont like it you have no choice. Also to touch on the Ice Cream Sandwich release date. I'm a high school student, its like promising a little kid candy and taking it back. At this point no one knows or can tell we just have to sit back and wait. /:
Not sure what being a high school student has to do with kids and candy,
but the problem with bloatware on ICS is its there even if you disable it.
Im fine with the services being disabled but I want my space back so I can
use it for things I want not what Verizon wants
Trust me I have complained a fair amount about it. The Rep agrees Verizon releases stupid stuff like the messaging app. But I completely agree with everyone on this. Its not fair.
The problem with major OTA updates for phones is that you have two companies involved. There is the company who designed and manufactured the phone and the company who provides network service. Although those two companies are partners, they have very different business plans.
HTC wants to design and sell handsets. When you buy a new phone, they want you to chose HTC. They do not really care if you select Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. as your provider. They just want to keep you from buying a phone from Samsung, Moto, LG, etc.
On the other hand, Verizon does not care which phone you purchase as long as it is one that connects to their network.
The only reason that either HTC or Verizon have any interest in OTA updates is that they know that if they don't provide them and their competitors do, you will choose another phone or another network the next time you have an opportunity.
It is much easier for the makers of WiFi only tablets. My Acer A500 tablet received a OTA update to ICS 4.03 over my Wi_Fi network a couple of weeks ago. However, Acer has publicly stated that they have no plans to update the Acer A501. The A501 has a 3g radio which the A500 lacks. Because a carrier becomes involved in the update process for the A501, Acer decided it was not worth the hassle.
For those of you who think HTC or Verizon promised us a specific date for the OTA, please remember that they did no such thing. First we had an unauthorized leak showing an April date on the BestBuy employee web site. Then we saw an unauthorized leak showing the May 9 date on a Verizon internal web site. Neither HTC nor Verizon have ever made any public announcement concerning a specific date. If you chose to believe leaks and rumors, don't be disappointed if they don't come true.
Remember also that the worst thing that could happen for HTC, Verizon and YOU is if they release an OTA that makes your Rezound unusable. How would you feel about HTC and Verizon if you had to mail your phone back to be reimaged because an OTA update failed? <Centent deleted per the Terms or Service (TOS)> Only when Verizon is certain that the ICS update from HTC will not cause them support issues will they release the final OTA. Who knows, however, we might see another leak.
The reason that Verizon and all other carriers install bloatware on a phone is to try to drive revenue. They want you to send text messages rather than make voice calls because text messages use less bandwidth than voice, but bring in revenue. They want you to use their GPS navigation service costing an extra $10 per month. They want you to use their family locator service. They are hoping that you will take the lazy approach and pay for their services rather than looking for competing services that may be either lower cost or even free. This is the same tactic taken by grocery stores who put junky magazines and candy along the checkout aisles. Because it is easy to grab it, some people do.
Concerning bloatware, however, it is not really a big deal. <Content deleted per the TOS.> Even if you do not freeze the apps, they take up minimal ram and minimal CPU clocks as long as you do not access them. There are even apps that will hide unused apps (bloatware) from the app drawer. The newer operating system like ICS move applications in and out of RAM as needed. The system tries to keep as much in RAM as possible so that it will be readily available if you call on it. So there is no need to be concerned if your RAM starts to fill up. That is actually a good thing as it makes the apps load faster. If the system needs more RAM, it will dumps things you aren't using so it can free up the space it needs. Never use an app killer. That just confuses the operating system and prevents it from doing it job efficiently.
Likewise, apps take up so little memory space in comparison to what is available that you do not need to be concerned. On my Acer A500 I have nearly 400 apps installed and still have almost 7 GB of space remaining on my 16 GB internal memory. The Rezound also comes with a 16 GB microsdhc card. If you need more memory than that, you can purchase a 32 GB card. I just purchased a 32 GB Samsung Class 10 card for $40 at MicroCenter.

The main issue is HTC promised ICS for the rezound in the first half of 2012 (maybe first quater. Can't quite remember) and its already may, going to be June in a few weeks. Its clearly in Verizons hands and they are just sitting on it. If it really is a major bug then I understand but from the leaks it doesn't seem to be a major issue.
and bloatware may take up little space but it still takes up space. Its MY PHONE I should decide what I put on it. This is something a few people on this board need to understand. I dont care if it takes up little space or used little ram I OWN THE PHONE.NOT Verizon or you guys. <Discussion of moderation is not permitted in the public forum and shall be handled through Direct (Private) Message.>
You may have the fastest network, but customer service is something you clearly need to work on.
Finally! Somebody who gets it! Thank you for posting this piece of awesomeness (cause I didn't want to write it). So many people complaining about things that just don't matter. The only thing I would add to your post is the fact that the Android source code is written for GSM and so everything pertaining to the use of Verizon's phones as phones has to be re-written for use on their CDMA network. Not to mention the extra amount of trouble-shooting that comes with that.
HTC did NOT promise ICS for the first quarter, or even the first half of the year. They originally put out a statement saying the Rezound SHOULD see ICS in the first quarter, then came out with another statement saying it would be later this year. Verizon is not just sitting on it, there have now been three leaked versions, with improvements to each one, so it is being worked on. They may or may not have been satisfied with the most recent version, so it may be a few more weeks before we see it, but it IS being worked on.
As for your little bloatware rant, I don't see why everybody gets so worked up about this. How does it effect you in any way, other than seeing a few apps in your drawer that you will never use? Regardless, nobody around here is saying that you should have to keep them, just that it is a dead horse and we are sick of seeing people beat it. Complaining about it here will not change anything about it, you need to contact Verizon corporate.
There are more than 8 weeks left in the first half of the year, and less than 5% of android devices have ICS right now. Its going to be ok, really, just be patient.
Im fine kid but the point is the lies verizon, always makes and we pay for
it.
I've installed all 3 ICS leaks and although each were/are solid for the most part, there are still bugs I experience and I am not by any means a heavy user and utilize all corners of the phone and download dozens of apps, so I am sure there are many other bugs found during testing, hence the reason for 3 different versions released over the span of a few weeks. Can you imagine if one of the first three leaks were 'official' and released OTA? With all the bugs experienced, users would be up in arms demanding patches or attempting to revert the software install, causing more frustration than we are seeing/experiencing now. I want the official OTA just as much as any one else and believed I would have had it by now when purchasing the Rezound back in December, but its probably a good thing it hasn't been released because, in my experience, I have owned SEVERAL different Android devices and most of the time, OTA updates experience issues so you gotta be optimistic and believe 1) Its coming, and 2) Verizon/HTC is putting much effort forth to get this eventual release to work as best as possible with little inconvenience to the user.
I am guessing the reason everyone wants ICS is because you will have the ability to disable/freeze apps. Sure, its nice to get rid of the clutter but speaking from experience...it does not make a huge difference in performance or battery life. Rayclem, I agree with you, these pre-installed apps use very little resources and thanks to the makers of 'task killer' apps, people believe these apps are the reason for battery drain, its not. The reason battery drains so fast is because of the screen and processor...hardware's gotta use something to excel in performance, no? Like mentioned before, I installed the leaks and disabled as many apps as I could and still get about the same battery life.
If you're that concerned about seeing all the apps, download Go Launcher and the ICS theme, you can hide all the 'bloatware' from appearing on your phone which is just as effective. You can make your phone look and perform like ICS with different launchers and themes in the Market, nice substitute for the time being IMO

I'm not so upset that ICS hasn't been available for OTA but I am upset with the false advertisement since day one of the press release. Now with the Incredible 4G horizon I doubt ICS will become available for the Rezound before the release of the Inc 4G. Early 2012 has come and gone. People like myself chose this phone over others such as the Galaxy Nexus with the anticipation of ICS EARLY 2012. 6 months later there is still no update and a new HTC device is ready to be released w/ ICS, most likely Jelly Bean compatible. Horrible advertisement used to the financial benefit of the company and the expense of the consumer.
Again its my phone . I paid for it and I should be able to choose what goes
on it.
Im not wineing and besides I have to wipe the phone and I have way too much
important stuff on here.
People on here are so closed minded its baffling,

I want a stable upgrade just as much as the other guy but I Dobut there is
that much issues. Sadly some just dont what consumers want and thats clear
upgrades and no bloatware
Yeah, I have the second to the last leak and it is not only stable as a whole, but the data connectivity is far more reliable as well. It is definitely worth the wait, though, as sad as it is for me to say it, it makes the phone what it should have been at the release.
Its my phone isnt? Should I be able to choose what I want on it?
O just dont get why people keep telling people to get over it and deal with the bloatware almost like you are a Verizon employee
This is what I was looking for that I could not find. The press release quotes two sources, one Verizon Wireless and one HTC.
The release does not say that the ICS upgrade will be available when we feel like releasing it. It clearly says Early 2012. Now the definition of what is early 2012 could be conjectured. We all took it mean the First Quarter of 2012 (not a bad assumption), but it could easily mean the Second Quarter of 2012.
I just wish Verizon would be more forth coming. Instead the allow us to vilify them in these forums.
All I want to know is what's wrong with the update that it keeps getting delayed? At this point I don't think its an HTC issue. If was an HTC issue, then it never would have left HTC. HTC received the OS from Google and they put HTC Sense over top. They tested it and made sure Sense 3.6 worked with the Ice Cream Sandwich.
What I think is that its a Verizon issue. ICS is probably disagreeing with the Bloatware they want on the phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and I can't install all the apps that I have obtained from the Play Store. Some are just not ICS compatible.
If this update is being held up for Bloatware and not a serious malfunction, then I have bought my last Android handset. I will gladly return to the Cult of Apple.
Unfortunately, the upgrade process for a phone connected to a carrier's network is a difficult one.
Google releases the basis ICS code- something they did months ago.
The individual manufacturers have to take the generic Google coding and make it work with their specific devices. Remember that each device has different specification- CPU type and speed,. memory, display type and screen resolution, audio capabilities, gps, etc. Some work with GSM networks, some CDMA, some HSPA+, some 4g LTE, some WiFi only. Each of these variations requires customization of the software coding. Some people seem to think that all you have to do is take the Google code and install it one the device. I am sure the manufacturers and vendors wish it were that simple.
When a device is WiFi only it is a lot easier on the manufacturer because they do not have to worry about the involvement of a carrier. The manufacturer is responsible for the coding, the distribution of the update and resolving any problems afterward. The manufacturer tests the update and if it looks good to them, they can release it. That is why several WiFi only tablets have received ICS updates. However, if you go on the various forums, you will find that people have discovered bugs in most of the updated software. The devices may function with the updated software, but some things may not work properly.
When a carrier is involved, things get a lot more complicated. The manufacturer still is responsible for the coding, but now the carrier is responsible for the distribution and, more importantly, for resolving problems afterward. The carrier's reputation is on the line more so than the manufacturer's. If there is a problem, resolution can be very costly to the carrier. Thus, it is in the carrier's best interest to thoroughly test any update before release. If you think about it, the consumer's interest is also protected by this process.
The manufacturer will test the software. When they think it is OK, they will send it to the carrier. The carrier then goes through its own testing process. If they find any bugs, they will send the software back to the manufacturer with a list of defects. Then the process starts all over again. Only when the carrier certifies the software update as completely stable can it be released to the public as an official OTA update. Of course, sometimes unofficial software is leaked; whether this intentional or unintentional, I do not know. Reports on latest leaked software for the Rezound indicate that latest leak is 90% stable. That is not nearly good enough for an OTA release, nor does it meet my standards for acceptability, so I do not intend to install any leaked software. I can wait for them to get it right. Figuring out how to correct those instabilities can take time. Unless you have written programming code yourself, you cannot imagine how tedious this process can be, especially when you have hundreds of thousands of lines of code to validate.
Once the manufacturer corrects the bugs, the software goes back to the carrier for another round of testing. If we are all lucky, it will pass this time, but if not, it gets sent back once again. This can delay the release by many weeks, even months. That is how a release with a targeted release date of "early 2012" might even get pushed into the 3rd quarter. But we still have six weeks to go in the 2nd quarter, so we can still hope.
This process is common to all the phone manufacturers and all the carriers. Remember that according to a Best Buy leaked announcement, the Droid Razr was supposed to get an ICS update a few days prior to the Rezound. Motorola probably has a closer relationship with Google than does HTC since Google is planning on buying Motorola once all the legal hurdles have been cleared. Although Motorola had an aggressive schedule for updates, the Droid RAZR has not been updated either. I would love to see the Rezound updated before the Droid RAZR, especially since the Droid trademark is a Verizon exclusive.
Although several WiFi devices have been updated to ICS, very few phones have received an update. Most of the phones running ICS were designed from the ground up to do so. The update process for phones running Gingerbread has been a long, difficult one for each of the manufacturers and each of the carriers. No one manufacturer and no one carrier has shown a clear lead over the others in this process. Unfortunately for users with phones on the T-Mobile network, updates for those phones are even further behind in the process than phones from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
So, while you are waiting for ICS, at least remember that the Rezound performs quite will running Gingerbread. Hopefully, ICS will make it even better and we will see the update very soon.
Unfortunately, you have still missed the big picture. They aren't talking to us.
I have been a loyal Verizon subscriber for over a decade and would have a hard time leaving as I have grandfathered unlimited data. I can't get that anywhere else and Verizon knows it.
I would just like them to be forth coming. I know there investment in my device is greater than my initial investment, but when I paid my money I expected customer service. There should a place on the Verizon website where they can show us (you know those people who make them possible) just at what stage an update is at, and what problems its still having.
It could be as simple as...
Phone OS Update Known Issues
HTC Rezound Android 4.0.3 Visual Voice Mail & VZ Navigator not compatible with Software #3.14.605.5
I wouldn't even demand a time table. It would be nice to be kept in the loop.
Instead, we troll the internet for what little information we can find. We chase rumors and get disappointed when they don't pan out.
why did htc and verizon say the phone was gonna get ics in "early 2012"?
because they wanted to sell phones. no one is saying the process is easy.
but since they said "early 2012" to make sales, they should have been working on this for a long time.
they have a calendar. they know what they said. but they have taken forever to get this done.
no excuse. if i did my job like this, i would get fired.
also, what about an announcement? any statement from them at all?
no...just crickets...
so like the rest of the world, i'll never buy an htc again...
samsung, here i come!
no excuses...this was a selling point to sell more phones. they lied.
they have know for months when "early 2012" is. don't they have a calendar?
i live in realville. "early 2012" is jan., feb., or early march.
we're almost in june. no excuse. if i did my job this bad, i would be fired.
why are you defending them? i don't understand.
also, you're missing the point. there has been no statement.
only crickets...
Yeah. it will be a while for Verizon to push out ICS to the rezound. Here are some possible reasons.
First of with any VZW OTA update there going to make sure all the "bloatware' is updated.
<Comment deleted per TOS>
Your interpretation of the so called bloatware is correct but the only thing is when you look at the services running which are taking up space and memory and cpu cycles, can sooner or later end up taking over the phone. Its like a compressed file you zip it and its smaller but you unzip it and all h**l breaks loose depending upon the size of the thing to begin with. A god help us if there is a memory leak in the program or service then it reboot time every so often depending on how much gets eaten up. Packman is not oneof my favorite games needless to say.
Verizon has dropped several points in the Customer Service battle between the carriers and in my opinion this is the reason why. I will continue to give them failing grades until they at least quit putting out bloatware and be up front about the upgrades. I saw posted on their web page when I went there that ICS upgraade to come out soon. ( my definition of soon ).
SOMETHING OUTDATED ON NOTIFICATION.
I agree, most of the bloatware is terrible. My biggest problem that they tell me the update will fix is the mail apps. Seems my gmail is the only one that works worth a crap, and when I call them all they say is the update should fix it. Well you've been saying the update comes in early 2012, and that has passed. I wish they'd just release it already so these things work properly! I even tried the yahoo app itself and it's no better than the stock app! Frustrating
They said Q1 2012. That has come and gone.
