The only thing you can do is call Verizon's customer support and have them open a trouble ticket for you. Your device may also need to be replaced at your Verizon store. Talk to customer support about it.

try going to settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> system select -> change to home only.  my signal was constantly bouncing around.  made the change and have been solid ever since.

I've noticed over the past few days my TB was going between 4G, 3G, and 1X all the time, even though I'm located right in the middle of a 4G area (Ft Lauderdale).

So I tried the suggestion above, by going the Wireless Settings/Mobile Network menu and uncheck the Data Roaming box and change the Select System from Automatic to Home Only. After you do that, turn the phone off and back on.

I did that earlier today and so far it has stayed on 4G and hasn't bounced between 3G and 1X like it has been over the past few days.

If anyone is having issues keeping a 4G signal, you might want to give that a try.

I had this problem for the last two days and I'm in downtown Atlanta (the middle of 4G coverage).  I was watching the Braves and kept dropping my 4G MHS (Mobile Hotspot).  Today, I tried it again with the same results.  As a VZW store employee, I started troubleshooting it.

This worked for me!

I went to:

Settings > Wireless and networks > Mobile Networks and clicked on Data Roaming (Check mark in green).

From the time I did that, I haven't lost my 4G MHS yet.

Someone mentioned selecting Home only under System select.  I would not recommend that option.

So let me get this straight. Not only do you do the exact opposite of the advice that has worked for others, but you recommend that people DON'T do what has worked for others without bothering to explain why.

Thanks for clarifying this problem. :smileymad:

My Thunderbolt was working perfectly since launch day. No dropped 4G service that I could see, and I was connected to the MHS for 8 hours a day all week. Then, on Friday, around the late morning it started dropping 4G over and over again, but only when connected to the MHS. Data roaming has ALWAYS been on, and the service has ALWAYS been set to Automatic.

This is clearly a Network configuration issue, and I'm going to try the suggestions of UNclicking the Data Roaming option and selecting Home only on Monday. I have til Friday to return the Thunderbolt.

Had the same thought. Then I said to myself "like I would listen to a VZ employee anyway" :smileyhappy:

This is not  a settings issue or a phone issue or anything but a rush to market and push high priced crap on consumers that have to have it now issue. I've said it before and I'll say it again, as long as we buy it, they'll keep selling it and shoving whatever garbage they can down our throats. This sort of thing comes in cycles. Eventually their sales take a dive and plans get cheap and service works. Then everybody switches and buys up all the devices and the oppositie happens, customer service takes a dive and we get junk that could potentially be awesome, except none of it works the way it should.  Oh well. At least the phone part of the phone works.

So is anyone still experiencing the data connection dropping off completely? I returned my TB last week (to avoid paying for the device) and after talking with Tech Support yesterday, the 'data dropping' issue has been resolved according to them ...but with all due respect to Tech Support, they have been wrong quite often when it comes to this device.

Just wondering if anyone who was experiencing this issue has seen any improvement over the last few days.

Thanks!

No it hasn't been fixed yet, I have gone 3 replacements and a new sim card an still have the drop outs. Here a test for someone to try if you have an iPad open a Youtube video lasting longer than 5 minutes and watch the data conncection kick out and then back on again and never complete the download. This will do it over and over again, the longer the better the chance is that will drop the data connection when both devices are connected via the 4G Hotspot. It does not have to be exactly a iPad either, happens with an iPhone, iPod Touch, or a Xoom. I have called Verizon Tech Support up to 6x so far and feel like I keep getting the run around. I feel like I make a little head way each time I call them, but still have the same end result. Someone tell me that issue has been fixed

This issue is still occuring in the Dallas area.

I called in 2 weeks ago and was told they were working on it, I called in last night.. I was told to pull my battery and sim card.   that didn't fix it so I was then told to reset my phone.

That didn't work either.   After that not working, I was told that I would get a call back.   I didn't get one of those either.. so I called back in today, and they told me they would open a trouble ticket to the local eng dept.

Still happening over here in Minneapolis. I don't use 4G to much by itself without using the hotspot tethering but when I am connected to my phone via my laptop the connection drops several times. It seems like eventually after stopping and restarting the hotspot, turning off the 4G then back on and reconnecting my computer to the hotspot the connection will hold for awhile. Basically after a lot of tinkering. This is very annoying and disappointing where was the testing Verizon come on! This is happening to what sounds like every phone since day one. You know the only reason people bought this phone was for the 4G. I also tried the fix im settings and changing data roaming to home only. We'll see if this help. Keep me posted Verizon.
