Hello,
Is there a way to disable the pop up window that comes up when I turn on location features such as the GPS? Using a Thunderbolt version 2.2.1. Thanks.

I tried to insert a picture but I can't figure out how to do it. Basically the popup is asking if it's OK to turn on the GPS. It's a disclaimer stating that by using GPS I am enabling third party access to my location.
Thanks,

You can not post images until you reach a curtain membership level but I am unsure the exact level..

I can't find an option or a check box that says never show again. The reason this is a problem for me is I have the app Androidlost. If you lose your phone you can log in on a PC and turn the gps on to get a location of where the phone is. This **bleep** pop up window wont allow the gps to turn on until it is acknowledged. Doesn't do much good if I lose the phone and can't be there to hit OK

Lets try to simplify things... Which one of the images is the pop up you are speaking of?
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Thank you for posting those pic's. I was not able to do that.
Option 2 is the one that comes up when I try to remotely turn on the GPS. It would be fine with me if they all went away. When I turn on the GPS, that's really what I mean to do. I don't need a window to ask me if I'm sure I want to do it
Thanks

No problem, now we know the direction to guide you...
This has became a standard feature as more users worry about apps that shares your location with other apps... The menu should only come on when you toggle the GPS off and back on, all you have to do is turn it on and leave it because it only auto activate when you open a app that requires finding your location.
I activated this option when I first got my device and haven't been asked anymore because I did not turn it off, if you do not see the satellite icon on top status bar the gps is inactive..

I guess this is where my problem lies. I do not leave my GPS on so I don't have to worry about it transmitting my location when I don't want it to:-) I only turn it on when I need it. Sure wish they would give us an option to get rid of this window. I don't need to accept a disclaimer everytime I want to use the GPS. I also don't want to leave it on so "they" can gather information about where I go or what I do. Why make it easier for someone to track you?
So...I guess unless I choose to leave the GPS on, I am stuck with the popup?
Thanks for your help.

Actually even with it left on each app that requires to identify its location ask for permission to access the gps for location, you can deny this through the app and you wont have any information being transmitted on your location unless you want it. Also you can disable Google Location Service and leave Standalone GPS on..

I tried leaving the stand alone GPS on all the time. It draws too much juice for me, even with the extended battery. I always have all location services turned off, all 3 of them. I am going to try and call verizon and whine a little. Probably won't do any good but I want this disclaimer off my phone.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Hi ddmk6,
I understand your reasoning regarding the GPS services. Thanks to the community for your input. I would like to explain some information and details behind the GPS services.
Please note that wireless providers do not allow devices with non-GPS equipment to be used on their networks. Due in part to regulations encouraging mobile phone tracking, including E911, the majority of GPS receivers are built into mobile telephones, with varying degrees of coverage and user accessibility. Commercial navigation software is available for most smartphones,as well as some Java-enabled phones that allows them to use an internal or external GPS receiver (in the latter case, connecting via serial or Bluetooth).
When it comes to tracking your location, GPS is great when using a mapping application, or when calling 911. So, though I do understand where you are coming from, GPS is a service that is necessary on devices. If you only want the GPS "on" during certain times, you will have to use the pop-up disclaimer.
I know that this is not the information you want to hear, but I hope it is still helpful for you.
Thanks and have a good day!

Thanks for your reply Christina. I understand the GPS and the tracking thing. It's one thing is the phone company is doing tracking. It's another if the 3rd party apps are doing the tracking.
I also understand the disclaimer. But I am not 3 years old. I do not need to be told everytime I wish to use the GPS. Please relay this comment to Verizon. Please give us an option to turn the disclaimer OFF. I read it the first time that was enough. It is disabling the function of a 3rd party app that I can use to find my phone if I lose it. If Verizon does not allow us an option to turn it off, I am sure someone on the internet can provide a fix. I have kept my phone stock because it has done everything I need it to so far. I would really love to be able to delete some of the bloatware that Verizon has installed. It would be nice to free up some resources. I guess if we don't get a choice and Verizon does not want to help us, we just go rogue.
Thanks again

The popup is more of a lega; thing and to acknowledge to the user what is going to enable the feature, this makes sense because of everyone responding to location information being accessed.
Now as for the apps the situation would not come from Verizon because this is configured in Android because the apps usually tag your location to access information close to your location instead of have you search through useless info.

Thanks Wildman...So your saying I should be directing these questions to HTC instead of Verizon? It actually makes more sense that HTC would be putting this disclaimer in the build. I'll check it out and see if I can get any help over there.
Thanks again
