I also figure since the two new Nexus S devices are made by Samsung that puts them a little closer to the source for Gingerbread. Kind of like when HTC was at the front with the Nexus One.

Those are pure google devices with no UI overlay so it's like comparing apples to oranges.

Yup pure google devices with GB and no overlay made the same company as the Charge so I'm thinking it will be likely that the Charge will see GB fairly quickly even if it is in the form of a leaked or redesigned rom. I mean it is already seeing custom roms ( http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-charge-sees-its-first-custom-rom-forums ) and with an unlocked bootloader I can only imagine that developers will find this to be a great platform. Wishful thinking maybe but I think the problems with the Thunderbolt are going to be Verizons new Froyogate ( waiting for promised updates ) so I'm grabbing my Samsung parachute and bailing on this Thunderbolt before it crashes.

The Thunderbolt is already running Gingerbread so your point would be? That "rom" isn't much of a deviation from stock. Lets see how long it takes Gingerbread to leak for the Charge or a semi-working cyanogemod to trickle out if it's even supported.  Just look at how long it took a Froyo build for the Fascinate to leak out.  And if you're interested in a device, I assure you the Thunderbolt will have a much much larger development base.
