Apps on my M8 need their permissions reset almost daily. Specific example: my SMS notifications go silent; when I check my notification settings, the tone is Unknown and the app permission popup comes up saying Messages needs access to Storage (where my notification and ringtones live, obv). Once I grant access, it's fine for a while. But it's not just Messages and not just Storage - it's all apps and random permissions. Things just randomly and silently stop working due to permissions and it's driving me up the wall. I've never seen this behaviour on other devices. Hard reset doesn't really address root cause. Anyone else seen this?

This has been an issue since the Marshmallow OTA.
OK, according to several Android forums, this is a known issue in the M8 and it's still happening. So long, HTC.
