What do I need to boost the signal from my PC to my laptop? My laptop is probably 40 ft away on the second floor?
You have a number of options. You can add an additional wired access point closer to your laptop, or you can add a repeater. If your notebook accepts an external antenna, you can try adding a higher gain antenna. Or you can try creating a "Pringles" directional WiFi antenna and using it in place of one of the antennas on your router.
