Slowdown since 10/2

Since the "outage" that affected the Northeast on Friday and subsequent service being restored, I've noticed my speeds have gone down by about half.

I have 20/20 service and the best transfer speed test results I've managed to get since Friday put me at around 10/10 (if that).

Anyone else seeing this behavior or am I alone?

I have definitely noticed a slowdown since 10/2 if not up to a week before that.  It's sporadic and inconsistent, but overall the connection has been operating on the poor side lately.

I wish I could just send a complaint directly to Verizon, but of course they seem to have disabled email support, etc.  I'm certainly not feeling like calling up on the phone to "get help".  All we need is for them to remedy the problem.

I've had FIOS for nearly 5 years and this has been some the worse connections lately.  I would first blame my router, however, the quite often I'm getting Verizon error messages (you know the one where it takes you to the verizon search page) for standard websites randomly throughout the day. Verizon having issues finding Google, CNN, Facebook, Yahoo, etc and within minutes of working on those same sites.

Frankly, I think they need to throw some hardware at the problem.  Some more DNS servers and routers for example.  I think their routers/servers are getting pounded internally or externally, and then they shutdown, go into it back-off algorithm, etc.  Again, I'm quite confident that it is an infrastructure problem on their part that may have recently come up for whatever reason.  However, I EXPECT them identify the problem and fix it.

blahblah,

I don't know if this will help at all, but have you tried using other DNS servers, like OpenDNS? I have had FiOS internet for 4+ years and occasionally it would be very slow accessing websites. About a year ago I changed to OpenDNS and my service is much more consistent and to some extent more reliable in that I rarely am now unable to get to sites. You don't even have to sign up for OpenDNS, you can just start using it, but if you create a free account they have some free services that you might find useful.

Just a thought.

Verizon may be aware of the issue.. but you will not know for sure, until you contact technical support 1  888 553 1555... they may even be able to resolve the issue
