I installed a Netgear Powerline kit (XWNB5201), and it works like a charm. Download speeds on the TV (connected by ethernet to the downstairs Powerline unit) and laptop (WiFi) now vary from 3x to 5x of what they were when they relied solely on the upstairs router WiFi.

Many thanks to you folks for solving my problem!

What the OP needed  was an Actiontec 3000N01   Coax network and wireless network extender.

This device will extend the wireless radios with both 2.4 Ghz  &  5Ghz signals using exsiting coax.  (Splitter  1 Leg TV  other to device. )

While I use both Powerline and MOCA  with success   the MOCA is superior.   No interference, higher speeds and more stable.

The OP doesn't have coax or Ethernet cable running to the location where he was having the lack-of-coverage issue, thus I don't see how that MoCA adapater / wifi extender would help his situation.

The powerline adapter he's using now is working.  My theory is you can't argue with success.  Smiley Wink
