i have decided to take the plunge and went ahead and signed up with Time Warner's digital phone service. a bit more expensive than with verizon, but verizon isn't fixing my problem. and u were right, i was able to take my home phone number with me. just have to wait for them to activate it on the 7th.................Time warner gave me a cordless phone, not sure if it's free or not. or if i can keep it if i cancel the service later on.

Here you get a bundle deal with time warner for phone, internet and cable TV and it's pretty reasonable from what I hear advdertised and the phone is not that expensive.  I don't know all the in's and outs of it except no battery back up like verizon.

I do know that you can have your calls forwarded to another phone so when you leave the house you can set it up to go to your cell and you can have caller ID on TV.    My friend does the forwarding thing all the time and it's so handy.  We had one corded phone in the house and 3 cordless and most times I was just always near the cordless that had the security encryption on it or what ever it is they put on cordless phones now compared to years ago.  With my cell I don't worry about it as I have never had trouble in 10yrs. with any one getting my info.  Heck before we even had a cell and internet years ago someone got a hold of our CC numbers to try and hack our account but they got caught before doing anything.  Mary

finally got my phone line activated today from time warner. thru some confusion i thought i had to stay home and wait for a technician to come and install, which was not the case. So i wasted the whole day waiting for the non existing appointment. i ended up calling time warner and now i am activated. i did a chat room session with the TW tech, because I didnt want to waste my cell phone mins. the chat room rep said i had to wait at home for them to come.  anyway, i only had it for one day, so far so good.

and i used it to call up verizon to double check to see if my verizon landline account has been cancelled. indeed it has been cancelled. they didnt even ask me why i cancel.

good bye verizon landline.

Glads it's working.  Today for some strange reason time warner phone only was out from this morning until about noon.  I had the radio on in the car and people were calling in to let the host know there were problems.  Don't know what exactly happened but they had every one back up and running by noon but it was a wide spread outage too.    Mary

things like that happen once in awhile, I'll see what my phone bill is like when i get it. I'm wondering if i can get rid of all their special features like Caller ID call forwarding, international and local long distance, to see if i can lower the bill. all i want is the basic stuff like incoming and outgoing call.

Post back if they let you.  The way I understand it here you get all that for the one low price in the package so have to take that I thought  but maybe I don't understand that right.  I can tell you with road runner internet I have had it go out twice in maybe 8rys. and both times was a nasty storm causing outages all over  and don't have any trouble with their cable service so think the phone will be just as good.  I don't need all that and was hardly using the home phone, hardly use the cell either as I just don't have a lot of calls.  Don't have a business or a big family and can just e-mail with my brothers and call if there is an emergency.  Mary

maybe i'll call them up and ask...why wait till the next bill? it be great if i can lower the bill, when i had verizon landline all i got was incoming and outgoing calls. no LD, no caller ID, no nothing, and it lowered the bill... but the state taxes killed it. suppose to be $15, but the taxes bumped it up to like $25.

i'll let u know if it can be done...

I hear ya, we were paying $45 a month for just incoming, out going local calls and caller ID, that's why we dropped it as we were not using the home phone hardly.  Mary
