The agent you dealt with is correct, Verizon does not issue any phonebooks. They provide the data, but they do not publish the phonebook. It is published by Supermedia. You can stop delivery by calling the phone number provided in the phonebook. You can also optout of delivery on the Supermedia website.
I am not allowed to complain about Verizon. It is against the rules. So I'll do my complaining with my wallet. I just set up a Comcast installation.
