If there are two wires on any of the posts, that is a big problem. The posts are meant to spring out very slightly and make a firm gastight seal with the copper wire. A second wire in the post slot would defeat the purpose of the design and one of the wires would probably be loose, likely the last one.

Another issue (unless my eyes are tricking me) is the mystery thing pointed to by the red arrow in my attachment. To me it almost looks like bare copper strand(s), but I can't imagine anyone would let that happen. If that's what it is, it may be shorting the red and green posts.

Maybe Phil can take another look and clear up these questions.
