Can Auto Updates On a MiFi 6620L Be Shut Off?

I use it in our cabin so I can control the thermostat remotely. However, every so often it will auto update and kills the connection until we push a button to reset... defeats the purpose of having it to remotely control the thermostat. How can I turn this off? I could find a setting anywhere.

Its not likely the auto update process that is killing your remote connection to your MiFi.  Instead its the normal nature and performance behavior of using a MiFi as a normal always on or 24x7 connected device.  MiFis are not designed to be used in this way, they are temporary internet connection devices intended to be powered up, used and then shut back down again.

Verizon has better devices for a 24x7 connection scenario.  For example the 4G LTE router or a USB Modem + Home Router or Internet Installed.  These devices are intended to be powered on all the time and will provide you a more reliable connection than what the MiFi can offer based on what we have seen since MiFis have been available to us.

That being said, you will still suffer disconnections from time to time that will require a reset or power cycle of your VZW device.  It can often help to rig up the power supply to your VZW device to some kind of a light timer.  That way every night or every few days the power will reset and refresh the connection.  This will save you a trip to the cabin or asking the neighbor to check in on it unless its really necessary.

Not to my knowledge! However, at some point the issue will correct itself because Verizon will eventually stop updating it.

Hello,

 

I disagree with the answer provided. I have the same scenario and am experiencing the  same thing.  It works for weeks. Then goes offline. When  you walk in the screen is up asking ip you want to do the update. The moment you click on YES the device goes back online.

 

How do you turn off auto update.

Also, the information provided in this forum is correct. These devices were not meant for a 24/7 connection or to be used as a primary means of residential internet. You may want to look into actual residential internet service so that this does not continue to be an issue. Sorry for any inconvenience.
