How come verizon lies in there user guide saying you can make a 4g lte network extender a closed network? It also states that it has a 50ft radius but all my neighbors are connected to it?

Regarding the 50ft radius, you can adjust the transmit power level of the extender to reduce its reach.

We turned it down to 30 percent and the neighbor that is 180ft away is picking it up.

What if you turn it down to the minimum possible? Have you rebooted/power cycled the extender to disconnect all connections to see if they reconnect?

We have done all of thee above. Verizon has made a product my neighbors can't disconnect from.

You've created a Closed Subscriber Group and did not include your neighbor, but he's still connected?

There's no option to make it a closed network. My neighbor was on the phone for 2 hours with verizon trying to make it a closed network as the user guide says and it wouldn't let you. The Verizon tech said at this time there is no option to make it a closed network.

For personal security, we removed your email address. Here's a direct link to allow you to manage your Network Extender via My Verizon: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-21844/

Hello, unfortunately you sent me the 3g extender and not the 4g and it shows in the information you sent me that you can't manage the 4g lte extender.  Any other options to make it a closed network?

I have been testing my new 4G LTE Network Extender and working with Verizon tech support.  The device defaults to OPEN access type.  When editing the device when logged into my account on the web site, it shows the option for OPEN, HYBRID and CLOSED access type.  When creating an access list, the access type defaults/changes to HYBRID, giving connection preference to numbers in the list. When selecting CLOSED, with or without an access list defined (or HYBRID without an access list defined), the CONFIRM and CANCEL buttons are there but fail not responding.  Verizon tech support were referring this to engineering to look at the web site to see why the options are there and not working and whether this model extender should support CLOSED access type.  After creating the access list, the access type changed to HYBRID and my extender was rebooted into that HYBRID access type mode.  Hopefully, tech support will provide me with some answers and if so, I'll share them here.

Check out this related thread, where @homebrewer4 found that the CONFIRM button when changing modes on the web site ONLY WORKS IN THE UPPER LEFT/LEFT side! You can set CLOSED MODE! WooHoo!

Re: 4G LTE Network Extender (Askey) CLOSED mode - Verizon Community

"if you go into your verizon account on your computer, click on my devices and find the network extender details you can edit to change it to closed, its picky on where your mouse clicks but the upper left hand part of the selection dot and the upper left of the confirm button just worked for me and then i made a list of the phones that can connect and now the closed network is working fine for me."

Have you tried it for yourself? It doesn't work here..No offense but ide really like to hear back from Verizon on this one to see how they think it can be fixed.

Yes, I tried/verified it on both of my 4g Extenders, femto2 and femto3, and it works.

Taylorj, Normally, Yes. You can create a Closed Subscriber Group that limits which Verizon mobile device numbers can use your LTE Network Extender's signal.

Closed Subscriber Groups have 3 modes:

  • Open - Lets any Verizon customer within LTE Network Extender capacity and range connect to the Network Extender.
  • Closed - Restricts access to the numbers listed in the Closed Subscriber Group (within LTE Network Extender capacity and range). Up to 50 Verizon mobile numbers can be included in the group list.
  • Hybrid - Access is open to any Verizon users within LTE Network Extender capacity and range, but numbers listed in the Closed Subscriber Group have priority access.

You can set up Closed Subscriber Groups through My Verizon.

Regardless of Open, Closed, or Hybrid mode, the Network Extender can have up to 14 active users at once. 2 additional channels are reserved for 911 calls and for redirect purposes. The Network Extender covers a radius of up to 7,500 square feet.

@Nicci, yes, you are correct. But it is NOT that easy. The My Verizon website/webpage where you select the access types has an issue with the CONFIRM button. ONLY the left edge of the large button is active making it appear to not work if you don't hit it in that exact spot. Can you open a ticket to have the appropriate group investigate/fix the web page/JavaScript or whatever? The CONFIRM button DOES work properly on other pages.

Yes, most extenders do have the option of creating a Closed Subscriber Group. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please send us a Private Note.
