I've had the extender for a few years. It's always sucked but at least it gave me something. I've about had it and am looking for some advise. Without the extender, our signal is nil.
With the extender, if I have WiFi on, the cell signal drops to 1x with 3 bars and call quality is [removed] . It's choppy and very hard to hear. Turn wifi off, the cell signal instantly jumps to 3G full bars. However, as soon as I place a call, it drops back down to 1X again with the same poor call quality. My internet speed is 6MB up and 6MB down. Not the fastest, but certainly enough for this. In fact, my VoIP phone we recently purchased has great quality compared to this.
Worth adding. My wife's cell has the same exact results on the system. I've moved the extender around and further away from the wifi router with no difference. It also doesn't matter if I'm standing next to the extender or across the house. At one point I thought the metal roof was the problem, we have since replaced with shingle, no difference.
I'm this |--| close to switching to ProjectFi so we can have WiFi calling that works. Any suggestions on what I can do before I make the switch?

Ibscum, it's crucial to have great service in your home. We want to help resolve your concerns, so you don't have to consider going elsewhere to get service. The recommended connection speed for a network extender is 10 MBPS or higher, so having 6 download speed is not quite as fast as we'd like to see. May I ask, are you plugging it into your WiFi router, or directly into a hardline router connection?

Into the wifi router directly using cat6. Wifi router acts as a switch as well. No way to plug into the main router directly unless I take internet away from the rest of the house. I should add, I've tried multiple routers to fix this and now that I think bout it, I've also tried multiple ISPs. I've also turned off the Advanced Calling HD call feature. I've tried with and without wifi calling turned on (which never works anyways).
I don't recall the 10MB speed requirement anywhere when I dropped a couple hundred on this piece of equipment. Seems a bit much, again considering my cheap VoIP phone gives far better call quality.
Also, isp speed doesn't explain why it will only connect 1x when I have WiFi on or when I place a call. If wifi is off, or not in a call it's 3G.

Yeah, I've played with having the ports forwarded and the extender in the DMZ. It didn't have any effect before, but I set it up that way again for kicks. Still no change. In case your wondering, I've also had it setup in the QOS and prioritized but it didn't help this issue.

You haven't said what make/model phone(s) you have. Have you had visitors with other phones that have the same problem?

Joe, that's a great question. My wife and I both have a Droid Turbo. My son as a Galaxy Nexus and it has poor connection and call quality.
I couldn't say if visitors have poor connection. We live in the mountains so people are used to not having cell access, so it's not common for them to carry a cell to their neighbors
