In NY, astonished how long upgrade taking!

To me it is amazing that those of us in NY, who have been with NY Telephone for our whole lives and were the first to get FIOS, that we are LAST to get this ridiculous upgrade.
While I do love the integrated FIOS services, it is amazing to me how their technology is such that it takes over a year delay to get a single upgrade. Directv would send nationwide upgrades all the time, and responded to user suggestions properly. When an upgrade had a technical issue, they would just push out a fix. WHY does FIOS technology move so slowy?
It is also amazing to me that NO ONE from fios answers any of these questions on the boards, only other users who have heard rumors or watch twitter tell us what is the latest; whatever "official" responses from Joe or the others are completely useless corporate baloney answers.
I realize that this wont be responded to either, but thought others might agree; if Directv had tightly integrated phone and internet as good as the fios integration, would immediately switch back. I realize directv can be bundled with fios internet and phone, but one loses most of the integration I believe.

As adults, we can choose how we react to things and I think this is a perfect example. Demanding more and more explanations is a losing battle oftentimes, just in general.
AAHHHHHH......
Thanks DOC....
Serenity now...

LOL!!...In all seriousness though, I really do believe in the serenity prayer. Or how about thinking, "I'm going to enjoy what I have now with my Verizon Fios setup and I will enjoy it even more when the upgrade comes."
I don't think any of this wisdom makes anyone a Dr. Phil. To me, it's just life experience.

I also updated my machine over the summer to get a larger drive. Was told at that time, that the
1.9 update was coming soon. I do though, also have a Tivo unit, which is another option. If it
wasnt for the 'On Demand' features of the FIOS box itself, i would have replaced it with another
Tivo. There is always hope for the 1.9 before the new season picks up after the holidays, but
after reading some of the comments on this forum and others, it doesnt sound likely.....

Do you want it quick or do you want it good? You wouldn't want your meat now when it's not thoroughly cooked, right? It's the same thing with this. I don't know why people here want this now so badly.
Don't believe everything you hear.

Well if i choose quick, I certainly didn't get it! As for do I want it good, I didn't get that either, because like all NY Customers, I haven't got it at all. As for my meat, yes I want it cooked, but would prefer to get it before I starve to death waiting for it.
In short, your statement offers a false choice since Verizon is neither giving it to us "quick" nor "good". Whatever excuse, alibi, reason or explanation they give or don't give changes nothing. They have promised customers in NY the upgrade and they haven't delivered on that promise. No amount of spin changes that. So stop spinning, before you get dizzy, fall down and hurt yourself.

Even when more people eventually get this upgrade, more will still complain.

And your statement has exactly what to do with the fact that customers in NY & MA have been waiting the better part of a year for this upgrade without the promised result? Is the purpose of your post to divert criticism of Verizon's complete failure to complete this update in a reasonable time frame?
So in the spirit of off topic meaningless post, let me add, and the Caravan moves on while the camel sleeps!

A while back I posted here about how I was disappointed because I was looking forward to adding an external hard drive, and the delays meant I had missed an excellent opportunity to purchase one during the heavilyy discounted days following Thanksgiving.
Not only has that opportunity come and gone, but due to the monsoon floods in Thailand, the price of hard disk drives has skyrocketed. The price of external sata drives -- at least the one I was planning on buying -- has almost doubled since September.
Way to go, Verizon.
At this point, I probably won't even bother getting an external drive, so I no longer care about 1.9. You can keep it, for all I care now. Considering all the complaints I see on the boards about 1.9, I'm beginning to think maybe it would be better if it never came around.

Malcolm;
If you are out there, any update as to when we will finally be getting our software/hardware update?
I mean anything other than "in the new year?"
It is very dissapointing to me that any other "network activity" should take precedence over updating those of us waiting this ridiculously long, and so much longer than any other area.

I've said before we are incented to get this done as soon as we can. That remains true.
I've also said that it will not be in this calendar year. That also remains true.
The last time Joe provided a date, we missed it.
As we've indicated before, things did not work out as we had intended.
Because we made a promise, and did not deliver against it, we got a fair amount of heat here and elsewhere.
We get that we're responsible for the promise, and its not really important in the end why things did not work out the way we had intended.
Still, Joe in particular has worked very hard to get the upgrades done and some of the personal attacks he has endured have been a bit over the top, especially given that within Verizon he has been and remains the strongest advocate of the communi ty we have here and the features that you have been asking for.
all this to say, I'm not giving you a specific date.
we need to get through Christmas and New Years before we can begin performing this activity.
a lot can happen in that time that could impact any schedule we may be considering.
You've made it clear that if we make a promise we better keep it.
So we will not make any specific promises unless we absolutely know we can keep them.
Can't do that today. When we can, we will.

So, now it's not until after the holidays? The other day a telephone tech' support agent said it would roll out in New York "by the end of the year." Lots of misinformation has been disseminated about this. The 1.8 software looks and acts like something out of the early 90's/late 80's. What IS the problem?

LOL, so the response from Verizon is, we messed up. We got nothing else for ya. Enjoy waiting a few more months for nothing.

He means CRS-3 and Verizon is upgrading Cisco routers http://blogs.cisco.com/news/verizon-to-upgrade-fios-network-with-cisco-crs-3/. And he means DAC 5 which is the last controller to get the 1.9 software. NY, RI, and MA encompass DAC 5.
It has been clear that the 1.9 rollout will take place next year. I assume 1/11 is the next possible date but that is what I assume and have no knowledge to when the real date is.
