Cell phone can't call UK cell phones - but can call UK landlines and other countries' cell phones?!

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, International Calling is ON, and I am also enrolled in Global Calling Plus.

While at home in the US, I can dial Australian cell phones just fine, but UK cell phones I just get the "Verizon is unable to connect..." message. My wife's phone can dial the same UK cell phones just fine, so it's not a problem at the UK end. It is possible there are other countries' cell phones I can't call as well as the UK, but I've not tried calling them as yet.

I've tried resetting the network settings on the phone and restarting, to no avail. It is fully updated. Wifi calling is off.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Good morning! One of our main goals is to keep you connected to your loved ones, especially when they are traveling or in a different country. To better assist you, please tell us a little more. Are you having issues with one number in particular or all cell phones? Do you receive a message or error when you dial up?

Thank you for replying, I appreciate it.

I receive an automated Verizon voice message which says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, your call cannot be completed as dialed, please check the number and dial again, announcement for", and then repeats.

This message is not for all UK (and potentially other countries' - but who knows) cell phones, only seemingly a random selection of them - there are some in my contacts that I can reach just fine, and some that won't connect per above.

I have of course double checked the numbers and tried dialling with either + or 011 prefixes - it makes no difference.

I know the UK cell phone is not the issue, as my wife's Verizon iphone can call the aforementioned UK cell phone just fine and it connects normally.

Maria, in addition - I'm not sure if this is relevant, but my phone was having some unrelated issues a few months back and they changed the SIM, so now in the Cellular settings there are two SIMs notes, one as "Primary" (which is labelled as "On") and one as "Used as "Travel"" which is "Off" -I don't change sims when I travel so no idea why the second one is there. Is it possible the Global Calling/Internatinal Dialing is connected to the wrong sim??
