Travel Pass not working in Chile

TravelPass worked at the airport and then stopped working on Santiago Chile. If it turn the phone off and back on, it’ll work for a short period. Service is highly unreliable and concerning if there are any immediate issues. Why have a travelpass that just simply doesn’t work as it is intended to?

I have turned on roaming, auto selection of carrier, and reset the phone. It’s quite disappointing and I’m going to buy a sim to have reliable service rather than waste my travelpass on something that doesn’t work.

Hi Amber, it did not work the rest of the day. It showed 4 bars and connected to Movistar (which is one of the main service carriers in Santiago) but had no connection at all for messaging, Internet, or calls. I reseted the phone several times, tried turning the cellular service off and on, and made sure roaming was on. The strange thing was that I received this text from Verizon for two days:

Verizon Msg: We hope you're enjoying TravelPass. Your 24-hour session will end at 2022-11-21 05:40:14 EST and you'll then have 7 day(s) left in your TravelPass bank.

But still no service

I gave up trying and ended up getting a SIM card with prepaid service.

Im having the same issue. Verizon seems unable to help and honestly doesn’t seem to care. I get charged for travel pass each day because it works for maybe an hour and they think that is ok and out of their control.

bradhawkins23, I'm sorry you're having some connection issues. Can you share where you're currently traveling? A country and city location? What aspect of services there is not working?

After messaging a representative, I was able to reconnect to the Verizon international service... however, the service cut out again. In fact, I had to restart my phone/turn my cellular service on and off at least 10 times in 2 hours to get service that was intermittent and highly unreliable. I finally went back to using the local sim card. The international service was so unreliable that I felt uncomfortable not having service when I needed it, and not realizing that I do not have service until that moment.

I am now back in the states and no longer need a resolution to this issue, however Verizon needs to seriously address this problem with its international plan and service. The unreliability of the service is not only uncomfortable, but can be a safety issue not having any connection in an emergency. For now, I recommend against using Verizon international service in Chile until the issue is resolved.

Same problem with almost zero service in Chile for two weeks. Set up the international travel plan before I left. Once in a while a text might come through but I could almost never use the internet or google maps or make a phone call or access my updated itinerary on google docs or use google pay. I ended up emailing my mom on wifi back in NY (she is on my plan) and asking her to call customer service for me bc I couldn't even do that. Verizon customer service somehow got a call through to me and insisted that "everything was working now" after "resetting the phone" and I am literally trying to browse while on the call and explaining to the rep that everything is  NOT working.  But she said there was nothing more she could do and kept repeating "everything is working."  It was very frustrating. I could not get a physical SIM card bc we were on a tour schedule and there was no time to find a store and there was nothing where we were once we were down in Patagonia.  My complaint is that Chile should not be in the drop-down list for international coverage if the service is not functional. My partner had AT&T and had service the whole time.

It's worrying to see that your TravelPass is not working properly. Please tell us, is Roaming enabled on your device? Is it connecting to any international carriers? ~Geo

I did everything a previous poster did- made sure roaming was on, restarted phone a few times, turned Mobile Data on and off to see if it that would help, etc. I had full bars with the R symbol at the top of the phone almost the whole time, but it still wasn't working functionally.  When. my mom called they convinced her to upgrade me to a different plan that included international travel bc that was more robust or something, but that did not help.

I am home now for six hours and every group text that  I am in is  jammed up with no messages downloading. An  individual message will go through. But I can not catch up on any personal or professional group  chats in which anyone posted in the last two weeks.

I would have been in a bad situation if I wasn't with someone that had AT&T.

I would like to not like have to pay for this service that did not work. Please advise. E

I come to Santiago Chile every quarter for the past year, and every single time I have limited to no cellular data while roaming here.  I call Verizon every time and am told to go through restarting my phone, turning airplane mode off-on, resetting network settings, turning cellular data roaming off-on, soft reset, hard reset - you name it, and I might get data for a few minutes then it's gone again.  Basically, 99% of the time I have no cellular data here and often no calling ability, either.  Been here for 24 hours and haven't had cellular data once.  I don't have this issue anywhere else including Brazil where I have been for the past week.  Today, Customer Service said that Verizon has spotty service in Santiago Chile.  More like no service, even though the Verizon Wireless map shows I should get full service here.  I used to get full service here in prior years but not for the past year.  What is going on Verizon.  Why isn't this fixed.  I have an iPhone 14 without a physical SIM slot so grabbing a cheap SIM here for temporary use isn't an option, and I shouldn't have to resort to that in the first place.

Let's make sure that your international services are working. Is Roaming enabled on your devices? Are you able to connect to any international networks? ~Geo
