Using an Esim and Verizon Iphone 13 while in England

Hey all.  Couple basic questions: 

Is my iPhone 13 Pro an unlocked phone, for purposes of using an eSim?

And when I take this phone to the UK next month, do you recommend activating a UK esim (like Three or another brand) to make calls and do mapping and such?

Any other general thoughts on using eSims with the iPhone 13 Pro?
