I have iPhone 7 Plus already with international plan 5/mo. When I go to NZ do I have to add additional travel plan for overseas

Yes, you have to add International Plan for using service outside the US. You can  check this site to have an idea which one will be the best choice: International Trip Planner | Verizon Wireless
