What options do we have to use our cell phones while in France and Spain?

It depends on your phones, but the usual best options are either:

A. Travel Pass, which charges a fixed fee per line each day that you use voice, data, or text while abroad, and charges nothing any days you don't use any of those features (which would normally require you keep the phone in airplane mode to avoid background data triggering Travel Pass for the day).

B. Pay As You Go, which charge per minute/text/MB of data used while abroad.

Travel Pass is usually the cheaper solution. I'd recommend using the International Trip Planner Tool: International Trip Planner | Verizon Wireless
