About 2 days ago i was able to tether my mifi 6620l to my desktop and my wife was able to connect to it on her laptop at the same time. Now when you tether it gives you a warning that wifi will be disabled. Is this a new "feature" from an update? Kinda dissapointed as the wife and i play online games together and my old wifi 4620l never had this problem.
Have a look at Page 64 in the User Guide. See where it says:
Micro USB Connection: Charge + Tether + Wi-Fi
That setting has probably changed. You should probably go ahead and Reset the device (see Page 4).
I only have 2 options under under micro usb connection: Charge and Tether ( USB Network ). There used to be a third option which was all three, now it is gone and it says next to where you choose the option "Wifi is turned off while tethered. Charge will maintain the current Wifi settings. I tried resetting my device but it comes up the same.
Do you have an old configuration backup from a time when Tether and Wi-Fi worked? If so, try restoring that backup. Otherwise, contact Customer Service (800) 922-0204 for a warranty replacement.
After about an hour on the phone with a rep and then a tech, all that they could tell me is that there must have been a mandatory firmware update. They were shocked that i was ever able to tether and have wifi at the same time and said that no mifi device allows you to do both at the same time. I know this is BS because my last mifi ( 4620l ) had this option. I was told to buy a network card for my desktop PC.
My 5510L supports simultaneous USB Tether and Wi-Fi. LPT: when calling tech support, if one agent isn’t very helpful, hang up and call back. Stick to the facts, “on page 64 of the manual, it shows…” and “up until date it worked fine and now it doesn’t” and “I need it fixed!” --- “The last firmware update was pushed in early June and this problem didn’t start until six weeks after the current firmware was installed on my device.”
Don’t be afraid to challenge them, “You might not be aware of the simultaneous operations but it’s a basic feature of the 4620L, the 5510L and the 6620L.” Be sure they understand you’re calling for the fix, which may be a warranty replacement.
I have a 6620l; it offers only the tethering options as explained by the OP, although this conflicts with the information in the user guide. One of the firmware change must have changed how tethering can work
