Jet Pack won't connect with two specific computers at the same time

I have been using Jet Packs as my internet hot spot/router for several years.  Last week I purchased a new Jet Pack, hoping it would be more reliable than the old one.  I have several computers that I use with it but rarely have more than three connected at one time.  The new Jet Pack turned on and worked great when I got it home, I tried it on all computers, one at a time.  The next night my wife was on one of her computers, an old XP machine, and  when I tried to log on with my Win 7 machine it would not connect.  I got a message that Windows could not connect to the Jet Pack.  The next night I logged on with my Win 7 machine with no issue.  I then discovered that if my computer was connected my wife's would not connect.  I tried other computers all connected and none seemed to be affected by either of the two computers that would not connect at the same time.  For some reason The new JetPak will not allow My wife's machine and my machine to both be connected at the same time.  Help will be appreciated.

One possible explanation is the XP machine is using an antiquated wireless protocol and encryption to connect. The preferred Wi-Fi technology is WPA2/AES, but older Jetpacks may default to WPA or WPA2 with TKIP or AES encryption which allows them to connect to both older and newer technologies but not necessarily at the same time.

Tell us about the basics: what model Jetpacks, both the old and new ones? On the XP machine use Device Manager: what Wi-Fi network adapter is installed with what driver version/date? Also what Windows XP Service Pack is installed? Are there any yellow exclamation points in Device Manager?

Thanks for the response7e18n1, here is the info requested:

New Jet Pack is a MiFi 6620L-CED8

Previous Jet Pack was a MiFi 4620L-30C9

protocol and encryption is and was WPA2-PSK[AES]

XP machine:

XP Home Edition version 2002 service pack SP3

Wireless Network Adapter: Linksys AE2500

driver version 5.100.68.46  date 3/28/2011

No yellow exclamation points.

Update on problem:  I was out of town for three days.  I turned Jet Pack off and removed power while gone.  Turned Jet Pack back on when I returned and both computers, XP and my Win 7, are now working on the internet.  Earlier tonight I had my Windows 7 machine connected and my wife tried connecting her Windows 7 laptop and got the "Windows cannot connect" message I have been seeing when my machine would not connect when the XP machine was connected.  She went off to read old emails without connecting to the internet and after 10 minutes or so the computer connected to the Jet Pack automatically.

Good info!   SP3 is good, it has the necessary updates that had to be added to SP2. The adapter and driver look good. You might have to play around with the 6620L to see if a setting might be a contributing factor. For instance, try to disable IPv6 and see if that makes a difference.

You have tried the basic stuff, R&R the battery and SIM Card, and Reset the device using the Master Reset, correct? If you haven’t done this it’s probably a good idea to try. Any changes you’ve made have to be done again after Reset.

Problem seems to have healed itself.  Don't know what I did but all computers now connect.

The new Jet Pack has some of the same issues I lived with on the old one.  Occasionally computer will not connect even though Jet Pack is shown as a wireless service available.  Cycling power on Jet Pack solves issue.  Old one did this, too.

Sometimes service is extremely slow, like dial up even.  I just shut down when that happens and wait till the next day.  This was a major reason for updating but fear it is a Verizon issue and won't improve until the nearest tower is improved.

Guess I will just have to live with these vagrancies.  The Jet Pack still serves me sufficiently well, especially when traveling.

Thanks for your help.

Remember it's a battery operated device so if anything weird happens, remove and reinstall the battery and SIM Card and if necessary use the Reset bottom to regain full control of it. Mine 5510L Jetpack is on 24/7 and I have to nurse it along often. Glad you got it working and you're welcome!
