Recently I bought a new Verizon Jetpack 7730L via eBay. As I reside in The Netherlands I had to buy via a reseller because Verizon does not deliver to international customers. This information is vital, because as an international customer I cannot just take my device to a Verizon store. The Jetpack was sold to me as new.
When I started the device for the first time it was already activated. The default SSID was "wwtraveler". When I tried to use the device the admin password was starred out on screen so I could not login to the admin page. I performed a factory reset by using a paperclip and I was able to login the admin pages and I setup the device.
However: a week later I turned on the device and I got a message that settings were changed. The SSID was (again) "wwtraveler", the admin password was changed and again made invisible on screen. However, this time the physical reset button was disabled. So at this point I cannot login to the admin page, because I don't know the password. When I try to retrieve or reset the password I get a security question which I do not know the answer to. Factory reset can only be performed via the admin pages so at this point I am locked out. I can use the device but I cannot change anything.
I read online there should be a sticker on the back of the device with the admin password, but this sticker is lacking. There is a sticker behind the battery, but this does not show a password (just IMEI, MAC address etc).
I contacted Verizon support and they just point me to online troubleshooters which don't solve the problem. Troubleshooters say: perform a factory reset. This is not possible as the reset button is disabled and I do not have an admin password to do a reset via the admin pages. There is no sticker so I do not have the "default" password. Verizon support now just says: contact the seller, we cannot help you. I contacted the seller and he states the device is new and he never used it.
Has anyone experienced the same? Do I have a faulty device? Is it possible for a previous owner to reset the device remotely with the default admin password (even when it is powered off)? Is there a way to perform a factory reset while the reset button is disabled and the admin password is unknown? Is it possible to get the admin password based on IMEI? Does the sticker behind the battery have a password on it or is this a different sticker?
The seller offered me a full refund, but I would rather get the device up and running. Because these devices are difficult to get a hold on in my country.
If it was truly new, it wouldn't been missing the default password information sticker. I suspect you might have a grievance with the reseller.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

No! RESET undoes anything a user does to a Jetpack and returns the device to default factory specs. On the other hand, it does not undo anything the OEM or vendor may do. Novatel Wireless sells to vendors and will brand the device according to vendor specs. According to your post, both the SSID and Admin Password are not up to Verizon specification: the SSID should be along the lines of "Verizon Mifi 7730L" and the Admin Password should not be blocked on the display.
Try 1234 as the admin password. I suspect you have one of the FMCA 7730L's that was given away during a promotion in June. If the seller is offering a full return then I suggest you take it.
