Constant GPS problems

Hello,
I am having problems with gps on my phone. I am on my first replacement from Verizon and am having the same issues as the original.
I will eventually get a lock, but will get a notification saying GPS signal lost in the middle of navigating with Google Maps. I have also noticed that it has trouble figuring out which way I am heading. Lets say my google maps has me going north, my arrow might be going north but it pointed West. Seems all screwed up.
Read somewhere that Verizon got a bad first batch of phones in regards to the gps chip, anyone know if that's true?

I have the same problem and Verizon eventually dumped me into the LG Corporate Customer Support queue. Help on this issue was dismal and the problem has not been solved. A "certified new" used phone had the same problem so I just sent it back to Verizon and kept my new phone. But, after the resets and all the trouble, the GPS started working again. I don't know if there was some update pushed down or what but the last couple of times I have used GPS it locks in seconds which is what it did when I first got it. I hope that it keeps working because going through technical support at Verison is useless.

Takesone1221,
Let's get your GPS pointing in the right direction! Make sure Verizon Based location services is turned "off" and Google based location services is turned "on". Ensure Wi-fi & mobile network location is enabled http://vz.to/1bj5R7g
Thanks,

Unfortunately that didn't do anything for me. Still will loose my gps signal during navigation. This is quite frustrating with gps being crucial to my work.

I completely understand your concern and want to make sure that this important feature is working! Have you tried to restore the device? Do all GPS applications work this way?
I am looking forward to your reply so that I can help!
Thank you,

Hello,
Yes I have tried a factory reset. And all appawill loose the gps signal at some point or another. I have downloaded a gps monitoring app that shows what satellites you are connected to, and the number will just drop from 12 to 3 randomly. Then a little bit later will just back up. Makes it near impossible to use any navigation app.

Thanks for attempting the hard reset to resolve your issues takesone1221. Let's try safe mode because there may be an app on your device that could be causing issues with the GPS. I recommend enabling the safe mode and adding each application one at a time to test each application for GPS problems. Here are the steps http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/87334/ . Please keep us posted. Once you're done, you can disable the Safe mode function.
I also would like to apologize about the previous message that was incomplete.

It's not just her phone, it's all G2 phones. Mine was working then stopped working then started working again. If I am stopped it will start moving and recalculating my route, that is when I am stopped. Even when you are locked in and going straight down a road it will randomly tell you to turn or exit. I have had it tell me that I am at my location when I am on a freeway. I have been using GPS with Verizon for 2 years before I got the G2 and have had no issues at all. This is specific to the G2 and needs to be addressed. I have reset, reconfigured and replaced my phone and there is no change.

RSHoughton,
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with GPS on the device. We would want you to attempt the same thing that Kinquana stated. We would want to run it in Safe Mode. http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/87334/ are the steps. We would want to enable each of the GPS enabling applications one at a time and test it. I know this will resolve your issues.

@VZWSupport This is also occurring with my Galaxy S3 when using Google Navigator. Not a static google map view, but the active always-updating google navigator. "GPS signal lost" has become increasingly frequent.

Just started using google maps navigation on my LG G2 and it doesn't work unless I have a wifi signal. Even with wifi, the lock is weak and constantly looses me. Without wifi connection it can't find my location at all. VZ navigator never gets a lock on my location whether on wifi or not. I've tried all the suggestions above and nothing works. Clearly this is an issue with many G2 devices. Are there any fixes for this yet? Seems like basic functionality is missing on this brand new device.

Hi wd00 - Let's get you located! Have you tested the GPS function with other apps like Facebook or geo-tagging photos? What are your current GPS settings in Settings>Location.
Thank you,

I've tried the GPS function with other apps - trulia, zillow and others.
I've tried it with the GPS & Verizon locations services on and wifi/molbile location on - both on, one on, the other on, all of them with wifi on and wifi off.
Occasionally it will find me if there is a lot of wifi signals around, but then once i start to move it looses me and has me blocks away and it can't find my location again. If there aren't a lot of wifi signals around it sometimes con't find me at all.
Other systems - Tom Tom, garmin, iPhone 4/4S/5 - have no trouble getting a location lock. My phone has nothing but trouble. Thankfully I've only been testing this feature in places that I already know, otherwise I'd be getting seriously lost.

wd00,
We don't want you getting lost, I know it's important to have access to it. It sounds like your GPS for other apps is working just fine and as you mentioned, it's just Google Maps. After reviewing your messages, I can confirm the phone is working as designed. The GPS is designed to switch off if you're just looking at the map itself and not actively using to reach a location. It shuts off the GPS immediately when you move out of the app-while multi tasking. However, when you enter an address and obtain directions while trying to reach the destination, GPS will not turn off.

I'm not sure why you made the assumption that GPS is working on other apps and that my phone is working fine. That is 100% wrong. GPS doesn't work on maps, navigation or any other app that has GPS functionality
I can confirm this 100%. Please do not tell me its working well. Its not. I've tried all combinations of the locations settings and with wifi on and off. It never works the way it is supposed to. That is the issue I have and that is the issue I need fixed - either with a software or hardware update.

wd00,
I am sorry for our assumptions. We definitely want you to have a fully functioning GPS. Have you cleared out the data and cache on our map application? If not, please try this, first, disable all your location service. Next, Clear Data/Cache in the Maps application under all applications. Finally, power cycle your phone and turn your location service back on. Let us know if this helps.

Just googling LG G2 GPS issues, this appears to be way more than in isolated problem. It seems to be rampant and not just restricted to Verizon users. The most interesting thing I've found with my phone is that if I'm using Google Maps, GPS lock is spotty at best and won't lock for any extended period of time, but if I select Step by Step list, then it locks. Soon as I go back to the actual navigation, then it loses its lock. Its bizarre but consistently happening and was curious if anyone else was or could see if this happens to them as well? Thanks.

Thank god I'm not the only one ready to chuck this damn phone. I have tried all of the steps here on two different LG G2s. There is something fundamentally wrong with this device. I can put my daughter's Samsung S4 on the dash next to mine, both running GPS toolbox and hers has twice the reception.
How do I get Verizon to take back this phone and let me get something that will work appropriately?
