Facebook app not working after software update

I downloaded the newest software update for my LG Revolution last night. After updating, I can no longer connect to the Facebook app on wifi.  It does work in 4G mode, but not when I'm connected to my home network.  The other apps and browser connecting fine. Very weird! Never had this problem until update. Did anyone else notice this? How do I fix??

I have this problem, although I haven't tried using the 4G to connect. I cannot get to facebook through the Facebook for Android app, the Facebook for LG app, or via the browser. I don't even know where to ask for help. Is this a Verizon issue? I would like to get it fixed before I leave for vacation!

Just checked it with the 4G connection, and, yes, that works. So it's just the wifi connection. And only this app that I'm having trouble with. Everything else seems fine. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both FB apps, and done a hard reset. To no avail.

I guess in a way that's comforting - it means there' s nothing I can do about it. Although it would be nice to know if anyone is working on getting it fixed!

Did you always have the same problem or is it new? I always used to be able to get Facebook to work on wifi with no issues for months. I downloaded the new software update for Revolution, and all of a sudden it seems like they blocked the Facebook app somehow unless you're on 4G. It really sux because I can't get into my Zynga games either that are tied to FB! Smiley Sad Wish someone at Verizon could be aware of this and fix the problem.

Also, interestingly, when I try to log into the Facebook site with the browser I am directed to an error page. The browser works fine for every other site though. Really seems like there was some kind of block instated that will no longer let you use Facebook on a wifi connection.

It worked fine up until the update earlier this week. I can't get to Facebook on my Revolution through the app or through the browser. Sounds like exactly the same issue.

Hello Terri_m,
I understand the desire to access Facebook.  Is wifi connected on your device?  Please attempt with wifi on and off and advise your results.  If toggling the setting does not assist I suggest completing a factory reset by following the visuals here http://bit.ly/JNSkaF .  Please backup the device prior.  If you need any additional assistance feel free to reach back out.  Thank you.

The FB app does not work on WiFi but does work when WiFi is turned off...a factory reset does not fix the problem.

Facebook works fine when WiFi is turned off. Does not connect over WiFi. This is true whether I use the FB app or go to the FB web site from the browser.

I haven't done the hard reset because it looks like it would take me a day to reinstall and set up my apps. I don't have time for that. I have to do things like go to work. If I get a chance over the weekend I'll see what I can do, but it would be nice to have some sort of assurance that there's a reason a hard reset would make a difference.

The problem started immediately after the Revolution was updated automatically overnight a couple weeks ago. Not after I installed a new app or anything like that.

it's just a bad app. it's awful. it "was" getting better over the past year until the most recent update. i had gone so far as to upgrade my one star rating to 3 stars just a few weeks ago. it's now back to 1 star. it takes ages to load, scrolling is glitchy, and when i'm on wifi it does work, but CONSTANTLY gives me a no network screen that i have to tap to refresh.

well in my opinion, that would make it a bad app, wouldn't it? an app should behave similarly on all androids, unless the developer specifically states that it may not work on certain devices.

Like the other users here, I *was* able to use the Facebook app and website on wifi without any problem in the past.  The issue only occurred after downloading the latest software update for the LG Revolution. Based on that, I'm guessing the app itself is not the problem. Also, I am no longer able to log into Facebook website through the browser either. That shouldn't have anything to do with the app. Exact same thing with everyone else who got the Revolution update. The problem is only resolved when you turn off wifi and switch to data. I know that other devices besides LG do not have this issue at all. Totally not fair!! This needs to be looked into and fixed by whomever created this glitch!! I won't do a factory reset either as I highly suspect that will accomplish absolutely nothing.

I really don't think it's the app. I think it's something in the connection/validation process between the phone and the Facebook servers or applications that got broken in the LG Revolution update. If it were another app interfering, why would it have been OK before the update and not after? If it were the app, it wouldn't be an issue trying to access through the web browser. Although I suppose a test of that would be to uninstall the FB app and try the browser, except you can't uninstall the "Facebook for LG" app that came pre-installed on the phone.

you all must be correct. i just figured it was the fb update, which must have taken place near the same time as the Revolution update. the fb update was a couple of weeks ago, and many devices are now having various issues. my tbolt does have a wifi issue, but it is not nearly as bad as what you all describe. it started with the most recent fb update, which is why i assumed is was fb. has everyone tried clearing data and cache from in the fb app. also, i know you can't uninstall fb, but can you uninstall the most recent fb update? i was thinking that you could at least uninstall the most recent fb update. i may be wrong though.

I tried this. Logged off fb while connected via 4g. Turned wifi back on and started FB. I, too, got an update to the FB app.

Now what I see is this: if I try FB with wifi still no joy. However if I put the phone in airplane mode to block cell signals, then turn on the wifi....voila! works fine! I can't tell you if this is new or not since I never tried that particular combination before this morning's FB app upgrade. If there is anyone with a Revolution who can try wifi in airplane mode before doing what buckeyejosh suggested, I would be interested in your results.

Yup. You are correct! I tried logging out on 4G and logging back in on wifi... nothing. Once I turned on both airplane mode and wifi at the same time it suddenly works! I have Revolution also. This is not ideal, as I believe you are blocked from receiving calls in airplane mode, but seems to be a good short-term solution. Thanks for figuring this out!

So there are two workarounds:

1) Turn off wifi and use the cell phone data signal

2) Turn off the cell signal altogether (By placing into airplane mode) and turning on the wifi

Neither is perfect. With (1.) you can still get incoming calls and messages but you're using your data plan when you don't need to. With (2.) you save data plan usage but while you're in FB you risk missing other incoming calls and messages.

I hope they get to work to fix this really. I know I'm going to forget I've turned off my phone and wonder why I'm missing calls!
