Negative. Download mode is available in any version of the phone. LG Flash tool isn't the only way to push software onto the device. Rooting is only needed if you want to install a custom ROM onto the phone.
Do tell, how did you revert to the 4.2.2 from 5.0.2 when it was 4.4.2 before? I am seriously interested in how you did so without modifying the system.
Funny how you assume only rooted devices can be upgraded through PC connection on download mode when Verizon tech support had told me to see if I can get it to update that way just now. Now why would they tell me to try that if it doesn't work with stock firmware?
Like I said, tell us all how to do this and keep our warranty. there are A LOT of us that would like to know.
