Phone not safe

Since VZW Does NOT want to update their phones, I know at least the G2 on VZW has the SSLopen vulnerability aka Heartbleed. So hopefully in the very near future It can get patched.

No need to worry about this on your G2, Even you are using a galaxy s5 with latest kitkat, when you access a SSLopen vulnerability website/server, Your data is not safe.

The issue is not the device itself, it is server side problems, The best solution is do not use your phone to access any "https" website/server until the website has update the SSL patch
